A Quick Look at Winglets

By:

For those of you who read Gordon's post about bees, you will remember he mentioned winglets. One of our Customers recently sent us these stunning inflight views of these fuel-saving devices, and we thought that they would give you a big lift! Thanks to Paul von Heeder in Dallas for sharing these with us!

Lunch with a View

By:

Ok, so you've been blogging all morning and now it's time for lunch and you want something substantial but not heavy...a little ambiance would be nice but you'd rather not pay for the view, I have a suggestion. If you aren't already in the San Diego area then snag one of Southwest Airlines' legendary low fares and get yourself to Lindbergh International Airport. Just a short... read more

The Buzz in the Hangar

By:

One weekend evening we had some guests join us in the Dallas Maintenance Hangar. Somehow, a swarm of bees found their way inside the vertical stabilizer (tail) of one of the airplanes that was in for a scheduled maintenance visit. While they were flying around the tail, no Maintenance work could be done so SWA called in the professionals. Mr. Bee Keeper soon arrived with a hat... read more

Out of the mouths of babes…

The other day my son came home with a project that he had worked on in preschool. It was a report on me, his dad. He got my first name and favorite color right, but guessed a bit low at my age. I suppose 14 seems pretty old to a five year old boy. The part that I found most amusing, though, is that when asked to complete the sentence "When my dad goes to work... read more

The Business Side of Southwest

Those of us who are older than dirt (like me) and are fans of Carol Burnett (and who isn't?) will recognize this as the title of a ditty performed by a very young Miss Burnett on the Jack Paar Show in 1957. The erstwhile Secretary of State is also the namesake of Dulles International Airport in Virginia, which will become Southwest's newest destination airport later this year.... read more

LUV and the Blogosphere

Birds do it. Bees do it. Even educated Southwest Airlines is going to do it–to [mis]quote that old song. Since there are, no doubt, blogs about the birds and the bees, and since airplanes also have wings, we decided to do Nuts About Southwest, a blog about Southwest Airlines. For us, the experience is a lot like going on a blind date–will our readers like us? Can... read more

Welcome to the Nuts About Southwest Blog – A User’s Guide

By:

Southwest's Cofounders got together in 1967 to discuss their idea for a new airline that would bring the Freedom to Fly to America, and when Rollin King finished sketching out the idea on a cocktail napkin, Herb Kelleher told him, "Rollin, you're crazy. Let's do it!" Much the same thing happened when we presented the idea for this blog to Southwest's Leaders. They... read more
