WN - Southwest's IATA code
INOP- Inoperative
WX -Weather
APU - Auxiliary Power Unit
PSU - Passenger Service Unit
COS- Customer of Size
BSO- Baggage Service Office

Funny, I think of MRO as meaning "Maintenance , Repair, and Overhaul" - I think that's standard for the industry.

Here are a couple more that I've seen used at other airlines:
CSR - Customer Service Rep
DB - Denied Boarding

How about listing some of the operational acronyms like ATOG?

INOP: inoperative
CXLD: canceled
WX: weather

RON = Remain Over Night (aircraft stays in that city 'till the next morning)

These are the only three I can think of:
RSA-Reservation Sales Agent
FA-Flight Attendant
CSA-Customer Service Agent

SWA LUV! :)

MEL - Minimum Equipment List (Crews don't like this one)
IFE - In Flight Entertainment System
AOA - Airport Operations Area
ATA - Air Transport Assoc or Actual Time of Arrival.

LEO - Law Enforcement Officer

73C = Ford Plane
73G = 737-700
TZ = ATA (the airline)
EDCT = Estimated Departure Clearance Time (i.e. in a delay, the estimated departure clearance time when ATC is in flow control)
ATC = Air Traffic Control
HUD = Heads-Up Display (the cool gear in the cockpit that allows pilots to land in low visibility - SWA has this on all current planes, a major differentiator to its peer airlines)

BB - Blog Boy.
EBB - Kim Seale.
OTA - On Time Arrival (used often by SWA, not so common on other airlines.)
RR - Frequent Flyer Program.
FA - Friendly Attitude (seen in abundance at SWA, not so abundant on other airlines.)
GA - Great Attitude (also seen in abundance at SWA.)
FT - Flyer Talk, my second favorite airline site.
SSSS - S---, S---, S---, S--- (The same four letter word uttered four times under your breath when you see you have been Selected For Secondary Security Screening.)
WA - Wrong Amendment.
ATC - Air Traffic Control, the people who tell the pilots where to go.
TSA - Talking and Standing Around.
OP - Original Poster. Used to describe the person who starts a topic on a Blog or Forum. Also describes Ron Howard.

More later if I can think of any.

Sincerely,

WTBB

AOG - Aircraft on Ground - Used when shipping parts to a broken airplane. This term used very frequently in the Maintenance departments.

ACARS - Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System - This is a method that the flight crews can talk to the ground station digitally. Many times used to send aircraft times, Weather Info, Aircraft Statistics such as Engine Parameters (for trend monitoring) and other misc info between the aircraft and the ground.

Not sure where to put this ... but I got an anwser on your 800 number that floored me this morning!

"We have no tech support to call when there is a system problem"

The problem is yesterday, while signed on to my RR account, I booked two flights that never showed up on my future itinerary ... I gave it 24 hours since I was told bookings were heavy.

They were still not there this morning, so I cancelled the two flights and rebooked one ... still nothing shows up on my future itinerary.

Anyone else having this problem? I'm sure that there must be someone at SWA that would be interested in hearing about this problem?

I'm back to paper tracking my flights ... I'm going to be sooo confused! :-)

p.s. yes, I was logged on properly, because one flight I booked in June showed up on my intinerary, but the July flights did not.

MCO-PVD Fan,
I am so sorry that you have had a problem with your future itineraries and with getting that problem resolved. We do have support folks, they just aren't called "Tech Support." Our Reservations Agent should have referred you to our Customer Relations (CR) folks at phone (214) 792-4223; or fax (214) 792-5099. CR can resolve issues like this, and I encourage you to give them a shout.

Incidentally, we are working on a system to receive inbound e-mails from Customers, but I don't have an exact timeframe for you.

Brian

Brian,

Thanks for your quick response ... I just knew that there was someone out there to help! :-)

So "TS" = "CR" ... I came to the right place to get my answer!

Another p.s.

I'll give myself one wet noodle whipping ... because if I had gone down one more level in the "contact us" page, I would have seen the "CR" number.

SOB(s)- Souls on board
WCHR- Wheelchair/requires assistance
FMLA- Family Medical Leave Act (everyone's fav!)
RON- Rest/Remain Overnight
MCO- Mickey Controls Orlando
ROW- Customer of Size requiring more than two seats (sorry, had to)
INF- Infant (lap child under 2 years old)

Can't forget the POS...Positively Outrageous Service

Here's another one: SWA is So Wonderfully Awesome! :)

Joke for the day:
"Knock, knock!"
"Who's there?"
"Tenor!"
"Tenor who?"
"Do you want tenor (ten or) fifteen?"
Ha, ha. :)

SWA LUV! :)

Don't Forget GOG = Gesture of Goodwill

would someone please tell me what is the Acronyms for:

BLOG -

DING -

Thanks

Sherry - BLOG = Boring Long-winded Old Geezers )posting over and over again)

or

Brilliant Legendary Outstanding Guys (or Gals)

DING - Downloadable INternet Great deals.

Jim,

To whom are you referring with your description of BLOG? Actually Sherry, it is a contaction of weB log or Blog.

As for DING!, for years our commercials have always ended with the ding of the chime on the aircraft when the seatbelt sign is turned off. Then the announcer says, "You are now free to move about the country." When we opened our Philadelphia Station, we started a campaing there that ties in with the Liberty Bell "dinging." Since that ding sound is so identified with Southwest, we named the desktop widget, DING!

Here are a few more:

WAM=Weather Advisory Message

OTS=Out of Service

And one from my days at Delta: MT=empty

Looking back to working with a precious airline, and making sentences with them things could sound complicated. A good one that we would use in Line Avionics that the Foremans never caught on to (and I hope one does not read this)... Well is:

IFE - Already covered as "Inflight Entertainment"

PSU - Thing some may have mentioned "Passenger Service Unit" This is the device that you control the reading lights, call button, O2 Mask if you need it :)

VTP - Video Tape Player.

Now for the sentence to the foreman.

Encoded: "We are going to test the IFE system with the VTP and the PSU's on aircraft (tail number)"

Decoded: "We are going to watch a movie on Airplane (tail number)"

Alot of people in the airline world do not really get to see the Mechanics having fun. Most of the time when people see us on the plane, we are working and all business... Little do you know what happens when there is free time :) and I am not going to expose any "Maintenance" Secrets here... :)

Oops... Forgot one...

RePo - and no, it does not me Repossed by the creditor... - Reposition - Normally used when there are alot of cancellations and another plane, sometimes a spare is moved in a NON-Revnue enviroment to pick up another flight that has been canceled, or if that A/C is broken out somewhere, once it is fixed, it may be Repo'd to pick up its next flights that have not been canceled.

CA - conditionaly accepted
HFPPU - hold for passenger pick up (used in BSO)
BSO - Baggage Service Office
LGA - Little Girls Room - Ladies Restroom

Elizabeth Garcia
MCO/CSA

ooopss sorry I meant LGR Little Girls Room

IROP - Irregular Operations is one that I know all too well!
