Sherlock, why JetBlue and AirTran keep posting profits while Southwest keeps posting losses this year? Elementary my dear Watson, elementary!: In a recessionary domestic environment they expanded to recession-proof markets in the Caribbean, Central and South America... They took a risk that paid off! Southwest is too afraid to do that...
I loose more money to Southwest credit than anything - Why can't I use Credit funds for Earlybird Checking. Can this be southwest hidden baggage fee - Credit you can't use ?
Have you seen this post regarding the millions of soda cans Southwest wastes each year? It is pretty sickening. http://logicalrepublican.com/2009/10/southwest-airlines-an-eco-criminal/
The author makes a point that this could impact SWA losses.
Lorenzo,
We serve water in cans and reduce the waste by pouring cups per passenger, not doling out cans. We have a dedicated receptacle in galleys for aluminum cans, which has been in place for years, and our Flight Attendants are diligent at putting them in that bin. The bin is then removed at provisioning bases where the aluminum is recycled. In addition, we have been cited for our excellent recycling history by the National Resources Defense Council in a report they did in 2006. We have implemented co-mingled recycling to capture even more recyclable such as plastic, paper, and cardboard. Our environmental record, especially in the area of recycling, is stellar. If you're interested in even more information on our excellent recycling of other materials, check out southwest.com/cares.
And, we don't have a beverage cart :-)
