A Memorial Day Honor For One of Our Own

As many of you may know, Southwest Airlines partnered with the Center for Citizen Leadership last November to endow two Fellowships in honor of two Southwest Employees who gave their lives in the current war-- Sergeant Charles B. Kitowski III, U.S. Army and Sergeant First Class Michael T. Fuga, Army National Guard.

This Memorial Day, the Center for Citizen Leadership (CCL) has planned service events to honor Charles Kitowski. The CCL’s newsletter states: “There is no more appropriate time than Memorial Day to honor those who have served and paid the ultimate sacrifice.  And we believe there is no more appropriate way to honor someone than to live their beliefs. Sergeant Charles Kitowski believed in service.  And we want to honor his life with service as well.”

Charles was an outstanding volunteer for Meals on Wheels before he lost his life in Afghanistan. The Center for Citizen Leadership has planned Meals on Wheels Volunteer events all weekend in honor of Charles. If you’re in the area, please head to these events to join in remembering the lives of the service men and women.

I knew Charles. He was a truly generous and caring person. What a great way to honor his service to our nation, and his memory. Thank you.
