Raising the Bar--SI One
Raising the Bar--SI One
Hello from LaGuardia Airport in New York City! I just witnessed one of the coolest plane events ever! We finally, after much speculation and anticipation, revealed the beautiful SI One. This plane, N922WN, is wrapped with a temporary decal featuring the cover model, from the 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. This definitely seals the deals on Southwest Airlines’ FUN and edgy factor!

The cover model stepped off the plane and posed for pictures with our Pilots and Flight Attendants! It is an absolutely beautiful plane, and hopefully you'll get to travel on this sometime soon! Since my "Twiddles" left people guessing all day on Twitter , maybe now I need all our Bloggers and Twitter followers to send me their pics on SI One as it flies throughout the Southwest system! Thanks to everyone that kept up with the Twiddles, I think the best detective was definitely Mike Sloane www.twitter.com/mikesloan.
I'm working on getting the official pics from our friends at Sports Illustrated and here are some pics that we took today. In the meanwhile, post pictures in the comment section if you can! See yall back in Dallas!
Be sure and follow Christi's Tweets from the airplane's next stop, Las Vegas.

That is great. Looks awesome, but the woman plastered all over your airplane makes the girl you kicked off your flight look like a nun!
Tacky. Would one be able to wear those clothes inside the plane?
Does anyone else find this kind of trashy for Southwest? Having a woman in a bikini on the side of the plane hardly seems like the epitome of the friendly, down-home airline I've grown accustomed to. This seems like something Spirit Airlines would do.
I know that Southwest does do advertising on its planes (ie Shamu 1 & 2) but at least the others are fun, whimsical, and obviously family friendly. I don't have any kids, but if I did i would be terrified at thought of my child seeing images like this while traveling. Maybe I'm just old fashioned (for a 20 year old) but I don't think that bikini models belong splashed on the side of the airplane is tasteful or right.
That's one way to get noticed in the NYC market. Now when are you going to start service to LGA???
Great article, Christi! Keep up the good work. And how cool that the model came to the SI event. I wonder what the residents of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Jersey City, etc thought when the plane was flying into LGA :)
um that is awesome. wish i could see some clearer photos though. these are blurry on my computer
Very tacky. I know Southwest is notorious for it's fun, but this is simply in bad taste. I'm very surprised at their decision especially in an economic time that loss of customers is crucial.
I suppose it could go the other way, but how many teen-age boys are fare paying customers?
Wonder what it will look like after it's first encounter with a flock of birds?
I realize how those responsible saw this as appropriately tied to the history of SWA given that they used to promote flight attendants in mini-skirts. However, I would hope that thirty years later as a society, we would have a more sophisticated view. Promoting SI on a plane is fine, but how about putting an SI cover with Venus Williams holding up a Wimbeldon trophy instead?
Just Plane BAD TASTE
To me, the Sport Illustrated Swimsuit Edition is as wholesome and American as apple pie. You raise that Bar Southwest! Now I wonder if all those people that were up in arms over Kyla will praise this move. Ha! Seems logical to me.
"i would be terrified at thought of my child seeing images like this while traveling"
Sacred feces, you can't be serious! "Terrified"...?
Don't ever take your child to a beach. Or a pool.
Or even a grocery store, since I've seen the SI Swimsuit Issue for sale there too.
I agree with Anonymous. I don't have a problem with them promoting SI but I think someone like Venus Williams would have been much more appropriate. I am an avid Southwest patron but I must admit that I lost a little respect for them with this decision. I thought you were better than that Southwest!
I'm with Don on his comment above...
How much revenue does come from teen age boys?
The airline business is rough right now. Guess they'll try anything but I'm not sure this was a smart move on SWA's part.
Goodness sakes, you would think from some of these comments people had never seen an attractive lady in a swim suit. There is nothing wrong with SL model on this plane. As most things in this world it is a matter of who you ask. I think SWA is a classy company and their is no reason to change my mind over this being on a plane. Relax folks, after all you voted for "Change" didn't you.
I agree with some posters, that i find this tacky and somewhat offensive. I am a twenty-something male, and I would not want to have to watch this plane pull up to the gate traveling with my young child, or mother, grandmother, etc. I know Southwest is known for its fun, laid back qualities but this is just completely inappropriate to plaster all over the side of the plane.
The whole thing is in poor taste, and I'm acutally sort of let down that Southwest, a company I really admire, would stoop this low.
And the great irony, as mentioned, is that Southwest would (rightfully) not permit anyone dressed this way to fly in their aircraft so as to not offend other customers. But somehow they don't seem to mind offending their passengers from the outside of the aircraft.
The SI plane is just plain AWESOME! Southwest Airlines never ceases to amaze me. Southwest is so edgy and fun with their advertising and marketing and this just brings it to a whole new level! I love it!
I think this will shock everyone and then they will get over it. I am sure, in person, this really looks better then a posted snap shot. I think it has good taste and can not be compared to the young girl that was asked to de-plane. That is like comparing Sports Illustrated to Hustler.
Way to go Southwest. Your getting noticed.
Hey (another) Kevin,
You are not making equal comparisons with your comment about the beach, pool and grocery store copies (although I agree "terrified" is a little strong!). Anyway, you can't compare these things to a justa bout nude person the size of a 737! It really is in bad taste on SW's part.
Tacky or not, I like this Stimulus Package a lot better than the one from Washington.
I saw the flight for it last night, it was interesting that it came from Amarillo to LaGuardia. Did it already have the decals in Amarillo or did it get them after landing in LaGuardia? Have a great weekend.
To all the offended puritans out there --- GET A LIFE YOU HYPOCRITES ! if you seriously have problems seeing the great portrait of a great model you have to have your head examined. Seriously. Like you would date the ugliest male/female in town. Bunch of hypocrites!
Another example of how behind the times SWA is....Tits & Ass are in poor taste and not acceptable for the general public. It may have worked in 1970 but hardly acceptable in todays society.
In an ege when carriers are draping Brest Cancer Ribbons over their aircraft what a slap in the face to women that SWA would embrace this type of publicity. A little class might do the carrier well walking into the diverse market of NYC.....its not Nascar country HERB.
How embarassing for the hard working employees of SWA.
This ranks right up there with Burton's Love and Self-Mutilation line of snowboards. I think the title of this post should be "Lowering the Bar..." This should have been left for the cover of SI not the "face" of Southwest.
Southwest never claimed to have first class but I've never thought of them as low class either
(UNTIL NOW). They may be getting noticed, but it's in a negative manner. Guess bad attention is better than no attention at all.
Are you kidding me?!? This looks like a flying porn ad! I'm a longtime fan of SWA, this is one reason for me to change airlines. Jim Dawson's post was right-on, "Southwest would (rightfully) not permit anyone dressed this way to fly in their aircraft so as to not offend other customers. But somehow they don't seem to mind offending their passengers from the outside of the aircraft."
I naturally wonder what the terms of this deal are. It's well-known that magazines are in trouble right now, and SI is probably getting hurt just as much. My guess is that SI is paying SWA some good money for this.
It won't influence me one way or another. I fly an airline because of the service and the price I get. I couldn't care a less what their planes look like.
It really amazes how silly people can be in the face of human sexuality. Here is a woman showing her best on the side of a plane, and people on this board are having seizures about it. It's frightening to think that these people actually vote.
This is certainly surprising, and disappointing. While I'm not offended by the site of a woman in a bikini, I don't see how a larger than life picture of her belongs on the side of an airplane. Not a smart move for a "family friendly" airline.
they don't let great whales travel inside the aircraft either, but no one had a problem with that being painted on the outside.
Wow. The SWA haters really came out of the woodwork on this one. Look folks, this is nothing other than an outstanding publicity effort to open a new market. This is Southwest being Southwest....having fun, not taking themselves too seriously, willing to take risks. You guys don't like it? Don't fly Southwest. I will. And I'll take my family with me. Go SWA Go!!! Bring the SWA effect to the Big Apple. Pay no attention to the haters.
This is clearly a marketing stunt to get publicity...every savvy company does it. Just look at the Super Bowl commercials. Every year people get up in arms over some commercial being too risque or innappropriate for a family audince. And then the media talks about it for the next couple of weeks and the ad goes down in history as one of the most talked about of the year. And then it gets mentioned again, and again, everytime the subject of memorable commericals comes up. Good or bad, you're all talking about it, so mission accomplished. Nice work Southwest. Now you're playing with the big boys.
I agree with the commentor who said "To me, the Sport Illustrated Swimsuit Edition is as wholesome and American as apple pie." This is downright wholesome compared to European standards.
It's funny to read all the conservative comments about the plane seeing as how it will be 30k+ feet above the earth most of its 2 month lifetime. Not to mention ANYONE sees this on the cover of the magazine in the store or delivered to their own homes! So think about that for just a minute, how many families have this magazine delivered to them anyway?
Southwest is doing a great thing and has always been ahead of the curve, so what if they are partnering with another sucessful company and not taking government money and blowing it on needless things.
Christi,
Congratulations on a great post -- you have tackled a topic that is controversial with your usual style and professionalism!
While I respect people's right to have an opinion, I have to wonder why it is that in this thread, just like some of Bill Owens' threads, so many of the most offended and vocal critics share the same first name? How many parents out there have named their children "Anonymous"???
When all of this hubbub dies down, I think I need to go chat with our CEO and my fellow college alum about our NEXT special livery aircraft, Bevo One.

I personally have NO problem with women in swimsuits but as an employee of SWA I am very embarrassed about this. Yes, you can see the SI issue at the grocery store and women in bikinis at the beach...but parents have the CHOICE to avoid those locations during the times that swimsuit issue is out and avoid going to the beach. Now, what if you're at the airport and this plane rolls up to the gate and your kids are plastered-eyed to the window staring. Is SWA going to offer re-accommodation on the next flight for free if you don't want to fly on this airplane? After the whole Kyla debacle this makes our company look hypocritical and as soon as I heard we were doing this I just rolled my eyes and thought "What are the comments on the Blog going to be?". I was right...mostly in the negative.
I PRAY I do not work on this aircraft any time during its wrapped in that decal.
A true sign of marketing genuis, most anticipated magazine of the year and a bold move into a future market. Those people know how to garner attention.
Kudos to Southwest for being savvy in its marketing.
I think it looks great and it will get a bunch of attention, Good Job on the Marketing. Welcome to NYC. It's about time.
Looks like a Las Vegas Strip taxi cab!
I am not offended (as I don't think is the point with most of the opinions above), I just think it looks cheap and tasteless. What makes it even more ill-choosen is that it has nothing at all to do with flying or aviation as the other Southwest themed planes do, bringing me back to my first thought that it looks like an tawdry advertisement on a Las Vegas taxi.
Great Job on the new airplane. It's a great move for the LUV airline. At least now we will have a good fun airline in the Big Apple.
I wish they would keep this plane for longer then 60 days! It is certainly a beautiful plane! Does anyone know if the interior will have any decals?
"they don't let great whales travel inside the aircraft either, but no one had a problem with that being painted on the outside."
I LOVE this comment. BRILLIANT! :)
Very Hot airplane SWA, It's very refreshing to see you with the clever marketing again. Beats the whale airplanes all day.
N922-
Yes there are decals on the overhead bin space for now. I will post a pic of the interior later this evening when we are headed to LAS. We will be removing the decals before the A/C goes back into service. Have a good one!
Christi
Very nice job Southwest, it is already generating a great buzz, and is sure to be great hit.
Dear N922WN,
Don't get too excited about the interior, I'm sure it is just about as "glamorous" as the insides of the Shamu planes. The typical view that you'd have from the inside looking out...ribs, lungs, various internal organs, etc...
LOL

I would like to say I am suprised about the new plane. However, SWA has become a company of hypocrites, in the last 6 years at least. The "nuts" theory is an urban legend anymore, the way they treat employees is disgusting.......why woudln't they treat their passengers one way and promote a plane another.....HYPOCRITES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great JOB on SI ONE!!! Everyone has opinions and like the song says "you can't please everyone". Southwest Airlines once again jumps to the front of the industry! Everyone in NYC will know the name SOUTHWEST AIRLINES! That's the idea! I'm from there and can assure you that at least a million people from New York or North Jersey never heard of Southwest Airlines prior to this stroke of genius.
Keep up the good work!!!
You should try to land this plane on the USS NIMITZ. The sailors would LUV you guys forever..
Francisco,
Hey buddy! Good to see you back on the Blog! Your idea is great except for one problem -- we'll need to get Ding! Boy to install a tail hook on good ole N922WN, because the arresting cables on the Nimitz will tear up the landing gear and probably blow some good tires, too. Of course, there's the technical issue of whether the nose gear on a B737 can handle the stress of a steam-powered catapult launch when SI One is ready to depart and return to our regular route system.
Given the potential for complications, do you suppose your former shipmates would settle for a couple of subsonic fly-bys instead?
Come see us some time!

Its about time the Airline that brought us Hot Pants, (I bet most of the folks leaving comments don't know this) Luv bites, Luv potions, calls Love Field home, gives us a pretty girl on the side of the plane! In the 70's SWA Flight Attendants wore hot pants, as did plenty of Agents! The Airline is still "Nuts" but in the "PC" haze we seem to be living in, we are shocked by a pretty girl on the side of a 737. Relax, for a moment, don't worry about the banks, the war, the mortgage crisis, the credit card intrest....lets just enjoy the magazine, the plane, and the low fares! Good job Christi on the post, looks fun!
I agree that I don't think it is professional to have a woman in a tiny bikini plastered all over a plane that is going to land in airports that by nature must be "family friendly". I understand the concept behind the marketing but seriously question who's decision it was to use a Sports Illustrated shot of a half naked woman. As someone else said would you allow this type of dress Inside your plane. If you won't allow it inside your plane, why put it on the outside. Not to mention this just feeds into all of the unhealthy, and unnatural, body images that our young teenage girls are trying to live up to today. Big FAIL
Is Southwest Now serving La Guardia?? The pictures of the plane were taken there.
Let me start off with saying that I am completely PRO Southwest. But, I am truly disappointed in this decision making. Sports Illustrated is meant for the filthy pleasure of men, and is quite offensive to most others. I know in the past the flight attendants wore hot pants- this makes them look quite modest! And to add icing to the cake... how can you show a skimpy almost naked lady to a family friendly airline. It looks to me that Southwest is aiming for business customers and men. Very disappointing.
As much as I appreciate the beauty of a swimsuit model without a doubt, this is in poor taste for a company.
This is just going to get backlash from female coworkers, female passengers, not to mention families who would prefer their children not to see that. This is just stupidity on Southwest's behalf, and I would like to meet the person who came up with this bone-headed idea.
It's only fair to put a hot man in a revealing Speedo on an airplane. That can make up for all the women that are disgusted by this "advertisement". We'll see then how many guys give SWA the thumbs up for their marketing.
GOOD way to use the plane for ads
I think you should use more planes as billboards. Hopefully, you can keep the ticket cost down. Will this plane have the internet service on it?
She is a beautiful young woman.
As an SWA employee, I have to say that I am very dissapointed with my company, I thought we were better than this. I hope that I don't have to see or fly on this aircraft while whis decale is on it. Very poor taste SWA!
This is VERY tacky, indeed. SWA has always been a wonderful airline but this degrades it considerably!
business travelers vs family travelers...which is really sustaining the industry?
I am appalled and VERY disappointed in SW!
What a stupid decision? I am extremely disappointed that Southwest would choose to have such a near pornographic picture so publicly displayed. It will likely damage the good reputation of Southwest for many people, as it has for me. What did they gain? Questionable publicity and some amount of revenue in exchange for less respect.
As a proud to be hardworking SWA employee I must ask SkyGuy - are you kidding me - embarrassed - really?? Here's my theory , if all the adults were comfortable with the fact that we ALL look alike then the children would not feel inclined to be "plastered-eyed" to the airport window at a plane with a lovely woman on its side. And I bet if we are offering a $49 fare from coast to coast, no one will way,"Oh I couldn't possibly get on THAT plane."
THIS IS SO COOL ....
Oh Lighten UP! Yes she looks cool on the plane, and NO she can't wear it on the plane due to proper hygiene reasons. I'm glad SWA doesn't take itself so serious. I'm waiting for the plane with the hot guy on it!
What is the point of the SI model on the plane? If it is publicity, then mission accomplished. If it is to promote the airline, hmmm . . . very shady in my opinion. Frankly, I don't think this is appropriate.
(get a better camera)
Erica
This is what I thought SWA would be when I came to work here! FUN and Daring, taking chances!! Now let's get rid of codeshare and do the intl flying ourselves and take a chance on our employees!
SWA DAL/FO
The SI swimsuit issue is, hands down, the biggest single-issue moneymaker for Time Warner, SI's parent publisher. SI has over 3 million subscribers and is read by 23 million adults each week, with over 18 million of them are men, 19% of the adult males in the United States. So one might say SWA has a keen interest in this demographic. Look around the marketplace. Every airline is looking for and edge to profitability and SWA is at the front of the pack when it comes to money-saving and money-making concepts that are, in the final analysis, financially sound and often very savvy. This is a well-aimed marketing event that has certainly recieved a lot of attention in the first day aloft. It is a photo of a woman in a swimsuit. I can not see how this could be even marginally more offensive than serial-murders depicted on CSI Miami, movies like SAW I, II, III, IV or V, Fifty-Cent gangster rap or the preventable disaster of cholera in the Congo.
SWA has represented other diverse markets out there as well. Perhaps you might have seen the Tinkerbell decals on one of our aircraft to commemorate the DVD release of that video?
For those who feel this might be offensive to younger children: Do you shield thier eyes from offensive tabloid headlines in the grocery store check out? Perhaps it would be better for you Talibanis out there if all women wore burquas. I'm sure a few folks out there who don't believe in Santa Claus boycott Coke products during the holidays because they put good 'ol Saint Nick on the can. There are over 500 SWA airplanes in our fleet. If you don't like this one, it is very likely you will never even be lucky enough to see it anyway. Unfortunately, we have only a handful of flight attendants who could pass as supermodels. Better bring along a copy of the latest SI swimsuit issue on your next trip. Sit back, relax and enjoy our great fares, free drinks and snacks to your next destination. DING! You are now free to move about the country.
What this is really about is a matter of taste, perportion, and timing. The human body is a beautiful. Beautiful works of art capture that. Trashy planes with trashy models pasted across them degrade it, and the men and women they demean and service. But even more disturbing, is the message this sends to children.
I have always respected Southwest Airlines as not only a fair employer but a good service provider. But this unethical publicity stunt undercuts any respect I once had for it. I think any company has an ethical responsibility for the image it puts out there, especially when they are marketing themselves to families. It's bad enough I have to drive down the street and see signs for half dressed Hooter's "waitresses" (if you can call them that) and drive in beer barns with girls teetering around in heels and bikinis, but there are also small children seeing this and processing these images with very disturbing outcomes. Just in yesterdays news was an article about the negative impact that male TV heroes have on adolescent boys. And I think this is far more over the top, negative and insidious images about women that Southwestern is perpetuating. There's nothing wrong with a women being beautiful and admired for that, but there is something wrong with puting a practically naked women laying seductively on the outside of a plane (on an airline that incidently evicted a women from one of its planes for being underdressed) and suggesting that this is a normal image to see on an outside of a plane, this is what women should aspire to be and that this is appropriate for young girls to see. It's not the lack of clothes but the context. Women in bikinis belong on beaches. Actually, I'd really prefer to put on some board shorts. And it's not because I have something to hide. I'm fortunate to be very petite. I just would rather be enjoying myself than worrying whether I have a string up my ass, or whether some guy is checking me out. But it's these sort of absurd images constantly bombarding women that lead girls to constantly focus on their bodies and minimum, and develop eating disorders at worst.
So you lost me on this one Southwest, in every respect, as a customer included.
I am very surprised and disappointed at this decision. As if young women don't already have unhealthy and unrealistic images of beauty to contend with in the media - here is another one - in large format! I also don't think that these kind of images produce healthy images of women for young men either. These kind of images can be seen as disrespectful and can sometimes encourage the objectifying of women. I don't think you are a prude if your prefer not to see or have your children see a barely clothed woman plastered on the side of an airplane. I do not think I will be using Southwest to travel no matter what the discounts might be. I would have thought that key desicion makers at Southwest would have been more socially responsible or at least family-friendly in this partnership with Sports Illustrated.
I'm terribly disappointed by SWA on this one. When I was a college student this would have been great, but add in a few more years of maturity and a 5 y/o daughter and 2 y/o son asleep down the hall and from where I'm sitting it doesn't look so good. I've always loved SWA for their friendly employees and community involvement - the gate at Midway that's been decorated for some time now in patriotic colors with photos of servicemen and women is one of my favorite airport spots in the country - but this is a bad move. Sure, I can see the same or worse in any grocery store checkout line, pool or beach, but at the same time I expect it there, not from an airline that I previously thought would be better than this.
I have flown Southwest since their early days. Their planes were ugly dull tan with wonderful front- rear seating in the rear ,but their people, all people ,flight, ground, that guy in the chiefs chair were beautiful. That Company is the most All American Company this United States has produced in one hundred years.American citizen, look around. What the hell is wrong with displaying a beautiful American girl flying around the this beautiful country with a cargo of beautiful Americans in a beautiful American Built Airplane. Jack L Wigley
So here is my take on the "New" plane....
In today's world,we as a society are struggling with some very president issues. The economy is in schambles, unemployment is at a high, people's homes are being foreclosed and some people are bearly able to put food on a plate for their children. I think that there are actual "real" problems in the world that we should be worrying about...not what is on a plane. It is sad that society can not appriciate a beautiful person. Europe has nude beaches for goodness sake and it is just not a big deal. Priorities people, priorites.
I agree with one of the earlier blogs, in the long run when it comes to purchasing an airline ticket to get from point "A" to point "B" and Southwest has the best fare, when you get to the gate to board the plane are you really going not board because there is a girl in a swimsuit on the side of the plane? Really?
I guess in the end the question that we have to really ask ourselves is, does it really matter or is there something else in the world that we should be concerning ourselves with?
Wow, I have to say I'm very disappointed. So many other worthy causes or marketing opportunities SWA could have gotten involved with. SI is a great publication, but such a bad choice of graphic for the outside of the plane. Totally inappropriate IMHO. Lowering the bar indeed.
For SWA Customers, this doesn't represent the beliefs/opinions of all Southwest Employees--including this one.
A Disappointed SWA Flight Attendant
Dear Don,Cheryl, Yvonne, Disappointed in Texas, Skyguy, ALL SWA Employees that have blogged in on this matter......
Did you READ that this was a WRAP AROUND AD? It is going to be removed! CHILL OUT, especially our own employees!!!! I am very disappointed in all of ya'll. Ya'll should be PROUD of us at all times!! Especially our own SWA Pilot. Come on, guy!!!! You, of all people should know that is just an advertising promo!!
Give me a break ya'll. Disappointed? Shame on SWA? Embarrassment? That it the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard... If you are worried about your children seeing a beautiful woman with a bikini on, stay at home, turn off your television and never leave the house. There are way worse things being shown on TV and on the streets. Seriously, you can't tell me that every time a Victoria's secret commercial comes on TV you rush for the remote and change the channel so that your little ones can't see it and you can't tell me that you don't leave the TV on during Super Bowl commercials. Have you stopped going to baseball games because all these players that are taking steroids? Get over yourselves. Also, SWA may have kicked a hooters girl wearing a mini skirts off a plane but what is not being said is that she wasn't wearing any undergarments. I'm sure everyone one of you unhappy, disappointed, embarrassed people have taken your children to a beach where there are girls in bikini's. Get over it...it could be way worse. Like another person wrote most of you voted for "CHANGE". If your opinion has changd about a company that is making it affordable for you to fly and see places and visit family members in the current time of loss while other airlines are raising prices and charging for everything, then fly on another airline, spend more money so that you can prevent the possibility of seeing the plane 20-40 minutes of your traveling experience.
As for K. If you truly believe that Southwest doesn't take care of their employees or care about them or their customers then you must be delusional and living in a different world or you've never worked for a company in your life. SWA takes such good care of their employees and your comments just make you sound like a bitter ex-employee that did something really bad that you got let go.
I think the plane is a great idea. It's a great way to advertise. All you disgruntle people need to get a day job and quit worrying about the little things and start worrying about the real issues going on.
Obviously, the complainers here have never heard of a little European airline called SkyEurope? They had a good handful of "scantily clad" imaged-wrapped 737 aircraft flying around the EU, based in Bratislava. At least the Europeans are savvy enough to know that a woman in a bikini isn't socially threatening. Tiny-brained Americans, its time to get off your soapboxes and find creative outlets for your pent-up angst. I'm sure at least one of you has already filed the paperwork to start a lawsuit against WN for "making you stare for 20 minutes at such filth." 20 minutes? That's no longer staring... its stalking.
Move to Siberia; People dress in layers there, year-round.
Well done, Southwest, as always...!
This from the airline that kicked off the girl because of her skirt.
So, let me get this straight. In 2007, you put a woman off your plane for wearing revealing clothing. Now you've got a practically nude photo covering the outside of one of your planes. I find it patently cheap and offensive. I will NOT be flying Southwest Airlines again, and will discourage everyone else I know from doing it as well.
Let me suggest this new motto for you- it will fit your new image very well:
"At Southwest Airlines, it's not just our fares that are cheap."
poor taste... try to explain that to kids.
I am an often traveler with SW, even earned a companion pass for my wife. She won't fly with you anymore. How many people buy tickets for the pic on the plane? Fun is great... edgy is controversial.
I am embarrased to fly this airplane. I never thought Southwest would stoop to such depths for marketing. If the flight attendents still dressed in mini-skirts it might be appropriate but you have grown past that so why would you dress your airplane that way?
To those who expouse the 'beach' argument, dressing like that at the beach is appropriate, dressing like that at the airport is not.
Get some class, Southwest!
I hope that plane has routes to Florida!
Have any of you negative people ever watched TV or walked down the street? I forget do we live in times of the Quakers or Puritans? Is America one giant religious compound. The sooner you people stop worrying about issues like this and more on how to improve America the better off we will be. These are tough times and this is a company taking a different approach on advertising. What is goal of advertising? Now I am just a history teacher, but to me you want to get your product out to as many people as possible. What better company to team up with than SI, a magazine that reaches millions of people. Southwest is a company who offers quality service and at a fair price. So all you people who say you will not fly SWA again look up the prices of their competitors, pay the extra and receive less service with more delays.
PS. Don't ever look up because you may see a plane and that plane may be one with a super model on it. What is that about 1/20,000 chance?
To any employee who was negative: Shame on you. I know second hand of all the great things your company does for you. If you do not like the company you work for then why don't you go work for one that is laying people off as opposed to hiring them. I would be glad to take your spot.
Well enjoy your negativity, I'm on my way out to enjoy life.
BA
Prude America, unite! A woman showing skin, won't someone please think of the children!
A lot of these comments are so silly they have to be obvious trolls being obvious trolls. I mean, really? "I'm a girl who wears shorts to the beach so guys don't check me out" No, it's not human nature for males or females to be attracted to the opposite sex *eye roll*
"This add will make young girls puke out their dinners in an effort to be skinny" Sure, I guess being raised in a healthy household with stable parents won't combat that...oh wait. Well I guess it's the media's fault for making the girl have enough mental issues where she has to be perfect, never mind the millions of well adjusted women in America and the world who live life happily, if not a little jealously.
"This is tacky and ruining my children." Take your kids to the supermarket? You do, don't you? Do you yell bloody murder at the checkout isle when they pass us weekly or any other trashy hollywood magazines? How about any of the other woman focused magazines with skinny women in revealing clothing plastered on the cover? I didn't think so.
The other argument that is just throwing me for loops is the "You can dress like that at the beach, but not in public/on an airplane/at the airport." So it's ok for skinny, beautiful women to wear a bikini at the beach and it's ok for your kids to see said women at the beach, but lord help that woman and your kids if she's still wearing that bikini at some other time/place and your kids see her then!
I did love this one however "Just Plane BAD TASTE" I'm still giggling at the pun. The only valid argument that I've heard from anyone that makes any sense is that South West looks really dumb now for having kicked that girl off the plane for wearing revealing clothing. By revealing clothing, they meant "normal clothes a 20-something would wear." Now they go plaster a bikini clad woman on their plain who is ten times more naked than the other girl was. Just plain ridiculous of them and PR should crawl on their hands and knees and apologize to that girl.
Having said that, however, great add!
I LUV IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great Job SWA!!! I have been a HUGE fan and faithful parton of the airline for many years and this is so like the company! You were the first airline to have painted aircrafts and made a name for yourselves. Now the first to have a beautiful woman on the outside. As a woman, I am in no way offended by this stunt and I am 100% behind you for doing it. Just take a look at everyone how took time out of their day to make some sort of comment on this blog. If they took that time then you know they will take time out by the water cooler and talk about it to their coworkers and their family members.
Great job at "Raising the Bar!" When can I board?
Come on people……Is this really offensive to us? With all that is going on in the world, is this what gets us all wound up? As a SWA employee, I am so proud of MY Company for coming up with an ingenious way of getting our name out there, especially in the New York market. I would be proud to take my husband, daughters, parents and grandparents on this aircraft. Besides, for those offended, remember one thing, it is a temporary decal that will only be there for only 2 months! SI is one of the few magazines that have still been profitable and SWA is one of the few airlines that are still profitable, coincidence? I think not!! I am a PROUD SWA employee and proud of this decision MY Company has made!!
I for one am disappointed in Southwest and will not be booking any flights with them.
I have two daughters under 10 and feel like I am fighting an uphill battle to shield them from the continual overt sexuality and messages of society around them.
Tacky and unnecessary.
Sure my girls see people in bikinis at the beach. But we all know that is different than SI swimsuit models plastered on a plane.
When are we going to start thinking about how these types of thing harm our kids who need to STAY kids.
And yes I also have a problem with the magazines at the super market, commercials on tv and billboards on the hwy. and i do all I can to prevent their little eyes taking in the cover of cosmo.
I shop in grocery stores that mask the mags and do not have cable tv.
WE all know already SEX SELLS...doesn't make it right though and degrades us and our daughters as a society.
You have GOT to be kidding me. Having nothing to do with how tacky this is, the perception is that Southwest is HYPOCRITICAL. You dare splatter a mostly naked woman on the side of your airplane, but a young paying customer in a mini skirt cannot continue her flight because she is indecent? Wow, I don't care HOW "on time" your flight record is.....I may have to re-consider my loyalty.
LUV it!! I think it's an awesome plane, and I can't wait to see it for real. An excellent union of marketing and FUN!!
My seatback and tray are in the upright position, and I'm ready to go!
What a great airline. First you give us a very controversial topic, then you give us a blog to come to and cry about it. I give you a thumbs up on both. As far as all of the haters especially the employees, I'm sure you all aren't so stuffy, I mean this is the LUV airline, home of the chili cookoff and spirit party where the free beer flows. A place where so many couples have met and started their own family. Southwest Airlines just announced raises for the mechanics and pilot groups and your employees are acting in such a way. Look at what is happening in the rest of the industry, I bet the employees at Northwest and Delta wish they had the same problems as all of you. Like I said very nice job southwest on trying to keep your fun loving culture alive. I hope you don't let the killjoys bring you down. Imagine Herb stepping off that airplane firing up a smoke with a glass of wild turkey in his hand saying something cute like his and Colleens swimsuit picture wouldn't fit so they chose a sports illustrated model instead to put on the airplane. How refreshing. Bravo Southwest..
I agree that innovation is needed with carriers to generate additional revenue, but this IS tacky. It definitely makes SWA the most hypocritical company in the nation!!!! To kick a woman off one of it's flights for what she was wearing to plastering a woman in a bikini on the side of one of their planes is by far the most hypocritical thing I've seen lately. This may be one marketing move that backfires. Hopefully it'll send more customers to my employer and Houston's hometown carrier. Fly Continental!
Nice addition to the narrow body fleet. Now buy some wide body aircraft and prove you are not a sexist airline. Where's Borat in his suit-thing? Now that would scare some children at the gate.
I'd like to know why you wouldn't post my comment on your blog.
This jet would actually look good floating in the Hudson! Good for you SWA. Forget what the prudes think. Continue to have fun and please start hiring good looking flight attendants once again.
Wow, I've never seen so many prudes in one place at the same time.
People terrified of their children seeing a woman in a bikini??
But it's okay for kids to play video games allow them to portray gang members taking part in drug deals and murders?
Wow, get a grip on reality people, planes with women in bikini's are hardly the problem in our society today.
Now that's the Southwest I LUV!
Looks like a smart move to me! Cheaper than paying for advertising!!! Look at the publicity Southwest has gotten off of it already!! Southwest Airlines always finds a way to do things in a fun way and save money!!!!

I have to agree with others....this is a little trashy, even by Southwest's standards. Yes, they have a tendancy to play the shock and awe game, but do we really need 5 foot high boobs??!!!
As if Hooters, Bone Daddy's and Twin Peaks restaurants weren't bad enough. You can be edgy and still have some class Southwest!
Why are people so uptight? What is it about a picture of a woman in a swimsuit that is so offensive to people? I think it's ridiculous that we can't get over a little skin in a photograph. Who is this really going to hurt... It's fun, it's beautiful, and we're only on this planet for a short time...let us have a little fun!!!
LOVE IT! GREAT USE OF ASSETS.
No one loves a supermodel in a bikini more than I do, but the corporate and marketing folks at Southwest should be ashamed of themselves.
How can you allow your employees to throw young women off of your plans because their skirts are shorter than they'd like or their shirt shows too much cleavage, and then plaster a woman in her underwear on the side of the plane?
Have you lost your minds? How could you be so foolish to do something so blatantly hypocritical?
Way to go Southwest! I am a proud female Employee of this wonderful Company and I say kudos for bringing LUV into the skies!! I hope I get a chance to see this a/c before the logo is removed.
rick - although a common misconception, the young lady that was so famously kicked off a southwest flight for being scantily clad, was not actually kicked off at all. If you check the facts, you will see that she traveled on her scheduled flight. An Employee simply asked her to cover up a bit and southwest later apologized to her.
Any way to add this issue of SI to the seat back pocket so we will be able to remember what is painted on the outside of the plane?
I have several upcoming Chicago flights and am hoping that I can ride on this plane.....bragging rights you know......
Keeping it edgy and fun keeps me flying SWA
Isn't the SI Swimsuit issue going to be at EVERY newsstand at Every airport? Is everyone turning their heads when they see this magazine at the Airports? While they are waiting in line at the grocery store? This SI issue is the most read puplication in the world. Its not teenage boys who are buying up Swimsuit issue, its men and Women buying the mag. In 3 months every pool, every water park, and even kids washing cars at their neighborhood strip center will be wearing a bathing suit. Come on, give me a break and get off your "I'm offended" horse. Do we live in the Middle East where women are hidden?
All these people who are calling this "pornographic" have obviously never seen porn.
Oh, one more thing. How many people have known a girl in college at some point in their life? Just about everyone, right? Which girls were the most likely to become the "crazy girl/sleep around girl?" The well adjusted one who grew up in a relatively normal household with laid back parents? Or was it the one who's parents tried to shield them from everything and told them everything was bad? I'm pretty sure most people will agree with me that the latter was the "crazy girl" in college. No cable television, covering their eye's at anything that you disagree with? Really? I'm sure little girls don't trade magazines at school/friend's houses.
For the love of god people, kids experience these things with or without you. Being super prude parents doesn't make them better people, it just makes them sneak around trying to avoid oddball parents.
Ok, I'll admit that perhaps this wasn't the most tasteful advertisement to slap on the side of a 737, but saying that many of the replies here are extreme overreactions is the understatement of the century.
I mean, I can understand some being a little put off by something like this, but to refuse to fly the airline over it? Or even as a post a little further up from mine suggested, to discourage others from flying the airline? In my opinion that kind of a reaction is completely irrational. Honestly, what harm does it do? As far as children go, as it has been said before, it's nothing they won’t see at the beach or pool and as far as the fact that a child is seeing it at an airport and not a beach is, in my opinion, completely irrelevant. Calling something like this harmful to a child is completely crazy.
Honestly, I'm not implying that there shouldn't be boundaries for decency, nor am I implying that this was even a good advertising idea on Southwest's part. But don't you think that refusing to fly an airline because it has an image of a swimsuit model on one of its 500 or so aircraft is a rather excessive? Especially when the Southwest's customer service and on time rating is among the best in the country?
If you choose not to fly Southwest simply because of this swimsuit model, it's your own loss. Enjoy the other airlines nickel and diming you to death. I'm sure I will enjoy my flight to Orlando on Southwest next month, as will the many families on board regardless if this swimsuit model is on the side of the plane or not.
I am so ashamed of my fellow coworkers that have blogged such negative views on this thread...whatever happened to your Warrior Spirit and your Fun-Luving Attitude? Looks like it has been traded in for Cowardly Spirit and Self-Righteous Attitude... Seems that everyone is so concerned with being objects of "desire" that they are missing the big picture. SWA teaming up with SI for this plane to coincide with the release of the swimsuit issue and having this aircraft arrive at LGA on the day our service there is announced is nothing short of brilliant! With all the carriers that serve LGA and have for years, what better way for us to become visible and known in a brand new market??? Imagine yourself in NYC...you see this plane fly in with a beautiful woman on the side...your eyes move up to the tail....SOUTHWEST.... what?? Southwest is coming to LGA?!?! I can't imagine a better first impression!
For those who continue to call SWA hypocritcal and compare this aircraft art with Kyla Ebbert...get real...this aircraft features a professional model in a bathing suit and the aforementioned Kyla boarded not just in a short skirt or skimpy outfit, but without undergarments showing her "bits" to the world... You might as well be comparing apples to oranges...c'mon folks...
Lastly, SWA is the best company in the world to work for...they treat their Employees great and are active in all communities doing charity work. Never in 12 years have I been treated with anything other than respect... I wouldn't trade a million dollars for my job and those who think they are working for such a "bad" company...move aside and go work for one of the other airlines and see how happy you are there...there are thousands of folks out there who would kill to work for Southwest Airlines and would be LOYAL employees.
I love it. I am a Captain for a different airline and they would never do something like this. They are too PC. This is a breath of fresh air, finally. Women who are offended by this are probably a bunch of toads who eat fried twinkies instead of getting on a treadmill as a way of life. Guys who are offended by this probably have toads for wives.
I like it, I really do. Oh, I am sure the Obama crowd and all his morons would not approve of it but I don't approve of them. Go Southwest. Glad you have some balls of which are few and far between these days.
I might have been hallucinating, maybe, but for some reason I seem to recall this being a TEMPORARY decal, not the actual livery. Thus, IT'S COMING OFF before too long. This TEMPORARY look on SIOne is, in part, clearly for shock value - and judging by the assorted whining on this page alone, mission accomplished. This TEMPORARY decal does not imply that Southwest condones scant clothing, or that Southwest is losing any of the values that've made them the 40-year success story we always knew them to be. You'd better believe that YEARS after we've lost our money and our minds to this economic downturn, Gary, Herb, Colleen & Co. will still be shuttling us across the country and LUVin' it.
Now, what this TEMPORARY decal IS doing, on the other hand, is making a strong case and a major first impression for SWA. Amid all the brouhaha, SIOne's TEMPORARY decal and matching cover model will tell everyone (passengers and competition, see next sentences) that YES, Southwest is HERE, baby! Welcome to New York!
Didja forget the very airline that first leashed SWA at Love Field is scheming even now to kick them back to Islip ASAP? Didja forget about SWA's strongest rival, whose headquarters is merely 20 minutes south on the Van Wyck? Didja forget about another airline, who enjoys immunity from SWA back home at Hartsfield, and who'd love to stay immune from SWA in New York? Even these three had to stumble when they saw mutual competitor SWA taxi onto the ramp in a bikini in February... *rimshot* They know their hands will be as full as, if not more than Southwest's.
Make no mistake, David and a few of his friends are about to fly straight into Goliath Country. If he wants to enjoy himself before the f(l)ight, cut him some slack. And YES, we're about to bear witness to a Big (HUGE) Apple Brawl, right here on Rwy22. They might even sell seats at Citi (read: Taxpayer) Field...
And *sigh* yes, I've finally concluded my rant. I apologize. Can we go back to freely moving about the country (now including New York)? See ya'll on board. B-)
I'm all for beautiful women, but I too find it painfully ironic that the airline that was so chaste last year is now peddling flesh. I'll still fly Southwest, but your corporate integrity was just sold up the river. Guys are just as horny for static displays as non-static displays.
My husband had one thing to say, t-shirts?? He's not only planning on getting one for himself when they come out, but he's also planning on giving them to every male friend or relative he knows. He's also hoping SWA has a 12 year contract with SI, and that they will come out with a calender at the end. I happen to work for SWA, and I am proud to be associated with the most brilliant minds who have continued to reinvent and rejuvenate the industry....
It's a shame that so many of you out there judge swa for this. You cast the first stone so fast. Look at yourselves first beforge judging. Our world is driven by marketing and making money. I'M sure we all need ways to make money personally and in the business. Try being open minded for once.thanks
Working for Southwest is a joy and we, as employees have received countless benefits. No Layoffs, No Wage Cuts, great benefits and the like. We stand behind our company and will defend it to the end. N922WN is a beautiful aircraft compared to--- oh, let's say Maryland One. But at some point, we have to realize where our commitment lies. Is it with the Business Fare passengers?---who's select fares and boarding priority hardly ever account for all of the 15 seats reserved for them in the first boarding group, or is our allegiance with those who prefer to fly us based on our low costs and being given the "FREEDOM" to fly, especially in today's financial turmoil. The "common folk" made us who we are today, and I will proudly say that I am one of them! Personally, I don't have a problem seeing someone in a swimsuit on the side of a plane. What I do have a problem with is the publicity that we have received in the past over "Customer Attire". We now have to counter our philosophy with our advertising campaign. And that quite frankly puts frontline employees in the cross hairs! I don't know if I could ask someone to "cover up" when one of our planes doesn't. We're saying one thing in our Contract of Carriage, but with advertising, all bets are off.
Money aside, I think it was a poor taste of publicity! We have shown that we say one thing, yet display the total opposite!
This is disgusting. Makes me never want to fly SWA.
As a shareholder and a customer of Southwest, I am puzzled about this latest advertising ploy. Just because Southwest is a low cost airline doesn't mean it has to be low class. This isn't the 70's, and Herb is no longer in charge. He was able to pull off the hot pants and Wild Turkey because of his unique personality and the culture of the 70's. This SI thing makes it look like the adolescents are in charge of advertising and public relations. Edgy? That is a 20-something term crafted by "creative" types with spiked hair, pierced body parts, and a distaste for the middle class. Hey folks! Wake up! It IS the middle class who pay the bills for Southwest, including me. I'm not a prude, but I have to wonder whose bright idea it's been to take the brand to "edgy". This isn't "Fun". It is CRASS. Out of one side of the mouth of Southwest, we get "puritan", with flight attendants acting as dress code police with scantily clothed customers, and out of the other side of its mouth, we get "sexist", allowing a bikini-clad model emblazon the side of one of its planes. How does Southwest justify enforcement of its sexual harassment policy (assuming it has one) when you allow a half naked woman on the side of an airplane? I know things are bad financially for Southwest, but this smells like desperation. Change your technology, add wi-fi, do things that are productive. I'm disappointed you have lowered your creative standards. There is nothing creative about a photo of a supermodel in a bikini. You can find some creative talent who can generate a "Fun" imagery that is more creative than this. Get a new advertising agency and hire some grownups to run your advertising/marketing/pr group. This is an abomination of Southwest's image. However I guess Southwest is moving to the idea that any publicity is good, no matter how negative the message.
Bar rafaeli is soooo HOT!
Is this the same Southwest Airline which kicked women off the flight for wearing something inappropriate. I wonder if someone with a bathing suit wants to fly on the Sports Illustrated plane or even if the same model shows up in a bikini would they let her on the flight.
Yep at the end of the day I stand behind my first reaction. Good Job to SWA. I applaud this move. It is CHANGE we can truly embrace. Lets drop all of the super PC junk and just be happy. WooHoo
The reaction to the plane wrap is amusing if only because the rants and raves here are practically identical to those posted in the wake of Li'l Miss 15 Minutes, except Southwest's former supporters are now their detractors, and vice versa.
As a Southwest employee, I am appalled - this is degrading, tasteless and an embarrassment to females everywhere. We won't let scantily clad women on (or should I say in) our planes without asking them to cover up but we will plaster one on the outside????? Most shocking - is that when the plane is too far away - she appears to be nude! Won't the family going to Disney World LUV that.
I wonder how many people out there who are complaining about the girl on the side of this plane are doing so while they watch Desperate Housewives or a midday soap opera. I mean get real, its a girl in a bikini, you can see more than that just turning on NBC.
New ticker symbol: LUST ;)
That sure beats Shamu!
I would like to ask the management of Southwest Airlines to do the right thing and apologize for making such a poor choice of advertising media. I am absolutely embarrassed by this poorly thought through media stunt and cringe at the thought of having my wife, children, parents or friends fly on Southwest Airlines. Give a little consideration to the families that fly on SWA before you stoop so low next time.
Tacky, offensive; are you people alright? What do they wear in the Miss America Pagent, or the Miss Universe Pagent! Does anyone take their kids to the beach? Americans; self-centered, egotistical and ignorant. Kids, today, are drinking and using drugs in grade school and you're worried about them seeing a model in a bathing suit. Go to the mall and look at YOUR kids with pink and purple hair, black outfits with chains hanging from them, and cigarettes hanging out of their mouths How about the ones with their pants hanging down around their knees? Now there is an unoffensive fashion statement. Riiiiight! I think this is the stuff you better worry about your kids seeing, and emulating. I'd rather have a daughter that looked like a woman, rather than a freak.
Love it! I am proud to work for SWA!
To be honest about it, a pretty woman wearing a bikini is much more wholesome than a guy with a mullet wearing a wife beater who stinks of urine. The girl in the bikini is going to be on the outside of the plane for what, 60 days? The other flies inside the cabin routinely. I'll take the bikini every day of the week, given the choice.
Seriously, some of you people need to lighten up.
I have flown Southwest for years and have always loved there fun side but this has crossed the line. Yes going to the beach you would expect to see that, but not going on a plane with your family for vacation. It's comparable to bikini girl on American Idol. It would have been no big deal if she was wearing that at the pool, but to prance around like that while everyone else is completely dressed is in poor taste. I will be thinking twice about flying through Southwest anymore. If there willing to put that on the outside of there plane, what magazines are they going to put inside the airplane. Surely something not fit for my children. And yes, they're going to kick that girl off the plane, for being covered, but post a girl half naked on the plane? A little hypocritical???
I wish they would put a different girl on each plane in their fleet.
If it offends you spend three times as much and fly someone else.
Hey Ryanair wake up, Southwest beat you to the punch Virgin too.
Okay, where is the male model then? Tit-for-tat, Southwest, or else you'll look rather sexist. We ladies deserve a bit of eye candy too!!!
In Europe, they did stuff like this years ago already (on SkyEurope aircraft); nobody made a hassle about it...
I've been pleased to see so many people agree with me that this was a really bad idea for Southwest to blatantly exploit women like this. In the second half of my current podcast at http://www.airpigz.com I give several reasons why it's wrong - check it out.
LET'S ALL FLY IN OUR BATHING SUITS NEXT TIME!!!!!!
I dont see how Southwest could object, do you???
I am disappointed in Southwest Airlines.
What can they have been thinking, putting a practically naked woman on their plane?
This is a real insult to all of their woman customers, really to all of their customers.
If you are Sports Illustrated fan, you can always buy the magazine and keep it to yourself.
I have to be careful now about taking my grandchildren on Southwest, as I dont think I could explain to them why the airlines would do such a stupid, insensitive thing as this.
And isnt this the airline that tried to put a woman off the plane because she was not "properly" dressed? She had on way more clothes than this model did.
What truly amazes me is that the employees of SWA who are so judgemental of other employees. So, let me see if I have this right - if you agree w/the SWA people who thought this (poor) idea was great- then you are a team player and woohoo for SWA - they are the greatest people on earth - but if you disagree them you should be ashamed of yourself! Why?? Why should they be ashamed of themselves? Why should they not have a right to say what they think? You resort to name calling and belittling because they don't agree with you or their employer- this is their OPIONION and everyone has a right to it. I'm sure, if truth be told ,there have been situations that SWA has done in the past that you haven't agreed with - but, do you really expect that you should be called names and told you should be ashamed of yourself because you didn't agree? In my OPIONION the picture on the plane is juvenile but as I read the responses (name calling, etc.) from some of the employees- how would you expect anything less.
Why be offended at a scantily dressed babe on a fuselage of an airplane? Just about every one of the 200,000 Americans shot down in the air war against the Nazi’s evil regime had one painted in magnificent open display. My own Grandfather was a tail gunner in a B25 in the Pacific, and the girl painted on his plane was named Sassy Sal. So whoever objects to women painted on airplanes needs to have their heads, not the mention their knowledge of American sacred war history, examined.
The issue here is not whether or not similar things can be seen on the street, on the beach, or in one's own home. Nor is it about the choices that individual women make in terms of their own level of comfort with their own bodies, or the choices that individual families make in what they consider age-appropriate for their children to be exposed to.
The issue here is that this one instance is symbolic of an entire culture that perpetuates the objectification of women, treating women's bodies like a commodity to be bought, sold, and marketed, and then -- to add insult to injury -- messages such objectification in such a way that young women are supposed to be grateful for the chance to objectify themselves, and anyone who objects is a prude or a killjoy.
Objectification, depersonalization, and misogyny is not hip or edgy, Southwest. It is a sleazy thing to do. And you've just lost not only my business, but the business of a bunch of very, very angry women with very loud internet voices.
Women's bodies are not commodities or marketing tools. Please stop buying into the perception that they are.
Wow Southwest! Way to continue the proud worldwide tradition of objectifying women in inappropriately public places! I find the entire concept of the "swinsuit issue" gross to begin with. It is somehow even worse when blown up beyond billboard size. I've enjoyed my flights with you in the past, but I will definitely be reconsidering my opinion the next time I fly. American Airlines also serves the cities I frequently travel and gives me excellent frequent flyer miles.
EB
SW has this picture on the plane, and then when you board, the FA's are as old as Greece. A lot of them a older Grandma types-meaning the myth of sexy "FA's" is long dead. Thank heavens.
As an female attorney who long remembers women being subjected to this kind of stupid sexual stereotyping, what's SW's point? Who does this appeal do? Supposedly they want to appeal to "business select?" That's me. As a legal professional-and female- I find it offensive. Maybe it's because the airline is from Texas; they don't seem to "get it". Different culture than NYC. It's not 1970 anymore and "business select" is not only male. Women are no longer just hot pants wearing cheerleaders, pin-up girls and bimbos. There are many women professionals and business travelers who will not find this type of in your face marketing tactic appealing-especially NY women professionals- like me. I think a more timely photo-something to say something about today's world, cultures and issues would have been better. This sends a weird message out there-an unfunny put down to women.
I will boycott SW until they issue a public apology. It's 2009, and they've taken women back to 1950. Thought you'd outgrown your hotpants days. Guess not. I encourage all their customers to join this boycott.
I fly Southwest often. If I can get to my destination using Southwest I don't bother to even look for another carrier. On my last trip I found myself eating lunch next to a Southwest fight attendant from my previous flight (at BWI). We talked about how much I enjoyed the occasional stand-up comedy routines and how corporate had allowed them to do such a thing.
However I think the swimsuit plane idea stinks. It is insensitive at best and will be considered down right offensive by many. I appreciate thinking out of the box but when you do you will make mistakes - and this is one of them. I just joined a fast growing facebook group dedicated to extracting an apology. Get ahead of the ball on this one. Get rid of it!
if it was attention you guys were looking for, you sure accomplished that. however this kind of attention is just the acknowledgement that this airline has "no class" . especially in these times were we are seeing more and more everyday the caliber of excecutives running this countries businesses into the ground with their selfish, greedy agendas.
and as for the model, well we know she was paid alot of money and why not grab the money and run. isn't that the modes operandie of the top executives today.
integrity seems to lost among them all. pretty sad
want to get attention for your airline, offer decent fares with top shelf service, including on time departures/'arrivals, seats that normal people fit in and don't loose our luggage!!!!!!!
I don't have a problem with scantily-clad women. I do have a problem with hypocrisy, though.
Wow. Just wow. I don't fly a ton, and when I do I usually just find a good fare and go with it (Which is NOT Southwest, I live in Seattle). But this one makes me want to fly to their headquarters and plaster it with beefcake. You'd NEVER in a million years put a male swimsuit model on one of your planes, would you?
I'm sure there are more people with a frat boy mentality in the populace than rational people who actually think about the implications of advertising. So, on balance, you've probably got far more people who would approve than disapprove. However, as a company that seems to think there's value in a reputation for honesty, integrity, family values? Bonehead move, guys.
A good reputation relies on convincing people that you WOULDN'T sell your soul to make a buck.
I personally don't see a problem with this. It's just a woman in a bathing suit. Being politically correct in this country is GETTING OUT OF CONTROL! Grow up people....
People have short memories..... Remember Western Pacific with their Las Vegas showgirls? http://www.airliners.net/photo/Western-Pacific/Boeing-737-3Q8/0415983/M/ for example, or http://www.airliners.net/photo/Western-Pacific/Boeing-737-301/0401576/M/
This is disturbing. Why is Southwest doing this? It is demeaning to the women who work at Southwest and to any female passengers--really, it's demenaing to all employees and passengers. It's like when workers post centerfolds in their lockers at the workplace. Southwest has posted a huge centerfold in the workplace of their thousands of employees--and in a place where customers can see it. What are these people thinking? This makes us seriously question the judgment of anyone in an executive position Southwest Airlines. This is the kind of move that makes customers think, Why on earth would we want to fly on an aircraft run by people whose decisionmaking process is so obviously narrow, anachronistic, insensitive, and downright baffling? It does not inspire confidence.
in discussion of the si plane with a co-worker, he very aptly summed it up...'if you put hello kitty on the side of a plane, some people would be offended.' such is the world that we live in-- righteous indignation everywhere! i guess that's because, like swimsuit models, it garners attention.
Apparently things are more desperate than we even imagined. Hey, Southwest, here's a plan for you: How about in-flight Pam Anderson/Tommy Lee honeymoon videos?
What pathetic regressed adolescent schlub came up with that promotion? And what time are they tapping the keg? You know, to go with the peanuts...
LUV IT OR LEAVE IT?? LEAVE IT!!!! WHAT A TYPICAL LOW CLASS ACTION FOR SOUTHWEST TO TAKE. YOU PAY FOR WHAT YOU GET...
Wow... So when Virgin Amerca was called skanky over a Victoria's Secret party on the plane, what are pepole going to say when they blog about THIS?
Ok…this is totally out of hand. I’ve seen customers comments and employees comments like…Low Class, Trashy, Porno Add, Terrified Children, “We are better than this” For our employees out there if your going to make negative comments don’t you think we should keep those to ourselves? Do you not understand we are in for a long fight to stay profitable? We need every customer, every dollar we can get. I am honestly sitting here shaking my head did some of you forget about our profit sharing checks we get?? This plane will have this decal on it for 60 days then its gone!!! This was designed to get the most bang for our buck..and I think its working. And as for the comment about someone being terrified that their children will see it…ahh have they ever been to the beach, walked through a book store and seen the magazines on display, walked through the mall and passed by Victoria Secret? Really!!!! Come on think about it. Is it really that bad?
Please complain more....contact your local media outlets.....be OUTRAGED!! LOL....WN wins in the end.....
I have kids. I fly them on WN. And I will continue to do so.
It's even funnier when folks say, "Can anyone on the plane wear that?" Well, of course not....it's a PICTURE. If you don't understand the difference between a picture on the outside of the plane (which in most cases, you will never see anyway), and a person in the same outfit sitting next to you on the plane, then you need to get some help.
What exactly do you do for fun in your spare time? Call the FCC to get Two and a half Men kicked off the air or something?
Perhaps Southwest should also remove the images of Shamu from their aircraft. The killer whales are, after all, completely naked.
Luv it! Luv it! Luv it! I can't believe all of the haters...they must work for other airlines and really envy Southwest. I think it is beautiful! I would take my mother, daughters, sisters, nieces and all of their friends on this plane. I fly Southwest weekly and only hope that I get to see it in person. There is so much more to be worried about than a bikini! I think the picture was done in very good taste and would be proud if it was my daughter was on it...shoot I wish it was me. Southwest you are a genius when it comes to marketing...props to you! I know they wouldn't let her travel on the inside of the plane in beach attire...but Shamu, an eagle (Illinois plane) and a giant basketball (slam dunk plane) can't either. So, no disparity of treatment here. Hey Southwest, how about having the most sexiest man on the next wrap...Matthew McConaughey gets my vote! He is without his shirt in movies, entertainment shows and the news, why not a 737? In a tuff industry you do raise the bar! Keep it up, I will always fly Southwest Airlines! Yea LGA!!!
with all the really important things happening, I can not believe that so many peeps would waste the time and energy to condemn SWA for something that is on the cover of a major magazine on racks in plain view at stores everywhere.
I'm sure all the haters boycot ALL the supermarkets, drug stores, and convenience stores that sell the SI swimsuit edition! I am also sure that they keep their children out of those stores as well!
Acting appalled, and stating the "children" being exposed to this is harmful seems pretty odd to me considering I never see that many children traveling and the numbers of kids "exposed" to this is substantially less than those who will pass the actual SI mag in stores.
For the stew who says she does not want to work on this A/C, I am quite certain that nobody sitting in that a/c is going to equate YOU to SI, Bar Refaeli, or cover models in general. If you are worried about what peeps think about you, just do your job with a smile on your face just like most of the SWA crew.
It is different, but not to be feared! If SI paid good money for this advertisement, then maybe they will continue to keep fares low and that is good business sense.
Not only would I fly in this A/C, I am hoping that a benevolent scheduler or dispatcher routes her through HOU so that I can add it to my collection of SWA special painted A/C photos!
KUDOS, SWA!
This from the airline that denied boarding to a woman in "skimpy" clothing? Are you kidding me? You can do much better than this Southwest.
I would just like to add my voice to those that are very sad that my airline has chosen this worldly, cheap, sexist direction to attract customers. As a flight attendant for over 20 years for Southwest, I am mortified! I feel that if I am on this particular aircraft working that I am placed in a really uncomfortable position. There is the assumption that I am a part of the "fun" that is being displayed on the outside of the aircraft. This goes against everything I believe in, yet I have no choice as to whether or not I work on this plane or not. Lord forbid children are in the gate area waiting for thier flight and this plane pulls in. Don't misunderstand, I think this young girl is beautiful! I just do not, nor will not ever agree with what Southwest has done.
I too will PRAY that they understand that the general public cannot be this easily duped. Our country is still holding to what little values we can.
Please REMOVE THE LADY FROM THE PLANE!
mortified flight attendant!
I find this marketing ploy to be highly offensive to women and extremely trashy. It objectifies women as mere sex objects for men to lust after, and the women who contribute to this problem are no better. Objecting to this is not being prudish or "politically correct" or "out of touch." This society...where it is OK to flash our bodies around for all to see, watch people have sex on television or in a movie, be exposed to all sorts of trashy magazines at the grocery store, not to mention the accessibiity to pornography...has done much to destroy marriages and families. And putting some trashy model's picture on an airplane is sleazy and more than just distasteful. As parents of a teenage girl and a young boy, my husband and I try our best to raise them to know that people...all people...are to be treated with respect and dignity, and that they should treat themselves with respect and dignity. My daughter doesn't need to see what the "world" deems is beautiful...being beautiful means respecting your body and preserving what she has to offer for her future husband. And my son is being taught that women...all women... are NOT objects to lust after, but human beings who are to be respected and not demeaned. I feel sorry for women who feel like they have to plaster their naked and near naked bodies all over magazines,,,and in this case an airplane,,,in order to feel "successful" and beautiful. And I feel sorry for men who think that it is OK to treat women in this way. Mostly I feel sorry for the families and marriages that are destroyed as a result. May God have mercy on us.
This is my second try at posting this.
I find this greatly offensive to women and I will not fly Southwest until they remove it an apologize.
I have formed a Facebook group for the boycott and am thinking about ways of bringing attention--negative attention--to this.
I (used to) love Southwest. When a friend sent me the link to the story, and I started to read it, I thought, well, how awful. At least it won't turn out to be Southwest. But it was.
You've made many men and women angry. Men and women with money to spend on flying. I'm going to do my best to see that they spend it elsewhere until you apologize.
As much as I LUV Southwest, I am disappointed with & offended by this picture. I will continue to fly SWA, but am ready to see this picture removed from the plane.
I forgot to add this, but I would much rather see a pink ribbon (in support & encouragement of those who have breast cancer; I don't have breast cancer) on a SW plane. That's definitely more appropriate & for a good cause. Perhaps even a purple ribbon could be painted on for people like me who have an eating disorder, too. I'm serious.
I'd heard about the plane but just had the chance to see it for the first time. I think it looks great. All the fuss above seems a little over the top.
I actually rode this plane yesterday from Orlando to Denver. I have 3 kids and we never even knew that there was a swimsuit model on the side of the plane until we landed. And getting a glimpse of her was difficult as the walkway from the aircraft blocked our view. What was funny is that I saw a whole bunch of oggling airline employees sitting in their golf cart type vehicles looking at the plane when I finally had to ask someone what they were taking pictures of.
I don't know if it is tasteful or not but I'll bet Southwest get's a lot of publicity for this and by way of publicity... lot's of money.. to be honest I would have flown Southwest simply for the sense of humor the flight attendants had. I love the jingles that they would sing after we landed. It doesn't bother me that they have a woman in a bathing suit on the plane, I just hope that they put Fabio on the next one...
I have worked for Southwest for over 26 years. In this time I have enjoyed our corporate advertising. It has always been intelligent, humerous, and tasteful. The SI plane puzzles me, as the subject of this advertising is none of the above. This leads me to question the direction of our firm. I asked the important women in my life what their take on the plane was. All responded that they were disappointed. You can put me in that camp, as well.
SWA is an antiquated company and this illustrates it clearly. We live in an age of tolerance, respect, and understanding and this image does nothing for women and their struggles.
It amazes me that in 2009 an executive team would think this is a "good idea." Shame on Gary and his team, this is bad marketing and represents poor thinking.
Next month I am booked on SWA to fly to Orlando for my childrens spring break. What should be my response to my daughter who is 8 when she asks me what the image means?
Apparently people have really dull lives and have nothing better to do than post things on here. Did you get this upset at important events in the United States recently or was this the pinnacle of your activism. Give it a rest.
This was used to unveil their NYC service? R they kidding me?
This is trash they should have kept in Texas, I can just see what the diverse communities of NYC will think of this.
New Yorkers are sophisticated people several blocks from Nascar peanut gummin toothless wonders....SWA should think twice about this one. The caption above her should read "Hilly Billy's from Big D gone wild."
What a joke....
Gee Mary,
there was no call for that attitude, and I hope you aren't a New Yorker because Sports Ilustrated makes its home there. And, we don't have hills around Dallas.
Brian
EB
Well said Mary. I agree completely.
Mary - Let's get one thing straight, NASCAR's home is NC, not Texas. Just like NYC, most of the people in Dallas are not from Dallas. Your comments would be ok if you just knew what you were talking about.
Personally I'm digging the jewelry she's got on. Some gorgeous silk planets by Bhati Beads. Bar is beautiful, the jewelry is even better.
Being a "former New Yorker" Iand and now living outside Sacramento, CA, I can confirm that many NY'ers have no sense of geography or social demography outside a radious of 100 miles from Manhatten. However, it does take all kinds, and I think there is an element in New York that would enjoy this mural on a 737. Call it what you will. Whatever pulls your skirt up...
One more thing. I do personally find it rather hypocritical being that SWA just over a year ago, tried to remove a passenger from one of their flights for being scantilly dressed.
Yes, there is a difference between being dressed sophisticated sexy and sleazy sexy, but it's still hypocritical.
Hate it. Lowers the bar for such a great company. We have a brand and we are not hurting for an identity. Keep in mind most of passengers are not looking for the cheap thrill of seeing a partially nude chick at a new location.
Apparently, we were so ashamed at how idiotic the Nick Pudder ads were, that we had take a swing at saying "WE'RE COOL, AGAIN". The only problem, this lacks creativity and balance. Strike two...one more strike and your out!
As for you screaming liberals that seem to think that the lowest common denominator is a great moral compass, let this "puritan" be the first to congratulate you on being consistetnly repulsive.
I am saddened that another "freedom of choice" has been taken away from me and my family since we can hardly chose which airplane we will get when flying Southwest. We chose not to view women as sex objects but to be respected as equal members of this society. You have lowered the bar by presenting an unrealistic "model" for females to strive to obtain through unhealthy means. As a counselor to addicts of all types, I am sorry that you have added another "trigger" to lives already inundated by too much focus on the physical aspects of a person. Referring to your own statement, "The Culture of Southwest Airlines Co. (“Southwest”) is often the yardstick for many American corporations" , I say, I hope not!
I am totally confused by all the 'horror' of seeing a bikini clad woman. A trip to the local mall, beach or football game will reveal as much skin, but without the gasps of righteousness emitted here.
I am a Christian and certainly believe and follow the good Book. And while I wouldn't show off this much skin, I am not offended by it nor any of the other ladies who wear bikini's to the beach or swimming pool. My 10 year old nephew isn't offended either nor do I shield his eyes from it here or at the beach. It's appropriate attire and she's fully covered.
The clothing isn't acceptable inside the plane, of course. No one typically flies in a bikini. But the attire is certainly acceptable for the beach, where Bar is clearly laying. And the plane appears to be advertising the swimsuit edition of Sports Illustrated. So again the picture is clearly appropriate for that forum.
Flying porn?
Bad taste?
Come on, it's a girl in a swimsuit for goodness sakes. Geez...you can see stuff 100 times "worse" on flippin network TV any day, any time.
Shame on you SWA!!! Lowering yourself to desperate, tacky advertising gimmicks. It is time for our society stop denigrating women. I for one am sick and tired of having porn shoved down my throat everywhere I look. I am the mother of a young son and I will raise him to respect and value women. Not to view them as someone to objectify. You better believe that this Texan will be flying anyone BUT SWA from here on out!
To ALL complainers..please go and pray for all of the poor innocent people and employees (bye the way, I have NEVER seen a breakroom clear out as fast as it did when this plane showed up the other day) who have to seen this plane then go home and lock your kids up from the outside world so they grow up to be just as closed minded as you. I hope you are saving money for all the therapy those poor kids will need later in life when they realize how much they hate you for not explaining little things like this to them. PLEASE let the rest of us live our lives how WE see fit, not how YOU think we should live it!
New Yorkers are sophisticated people several blocks from Nascar peanut gummin toothless wonders....SWA should think twice about this one. The caption above her should read "Hilly Billy's from Big D gone wild."
Mary, if you really think this way, then it must be YOU who is kidding me. Have you ever spent any time in Dallas? From your comments, the answer to that question is an obvious "NO." Perhaps if you knew what you were talking about, people would take you seriously. Thank you for a good laugh.
Southwest has never been a family friendly airline. Case in point, their onboarding process. It is a horror to get through if you have young children. So this is just another message from Southwest to "keep your children at home". I personally would not take my children on a plane with a bikini model printed on the side. This works for the male-business traveler. Too bad Southwest has not been as successful as other airlines in atracting this demographic. Maybe this will help.
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue is the largest single selling magazine issue in the WORLD !
Not only does this issue reach 42 million men, it also delivers 24 million female readers ... which is more combined reach than Allure, Elle, Glamour, Lucky, Marie Claire, SELF and Shape !!
major hypocrisy here
i agree with the other posters who believe that this was in poor taste. At some point we'll make the full connection that these types of images are damaging...attention getting, obviously, but overall they are demeaning and diminishing to women in our society.
One female professional who saw the plane in LaGuardia this week told me she too was not at all crazy about the concept, but joked "I forgot to look to see where they placed the emergency exits."
Most of the people who are complaining about this are probably fat ugly women. Stop being jealous and get a life. It's just a beautiful woman wearing a swim suit. If you have a problem with it, move to Iran where you can cover your ugly self from head to toe.
Someone please help me understand when airports became synonymous with beaches? I've always thought swimwear is best worn at beaches, pools, and other similar places. Can't recall the last time I saw a woman at the airport in a bikini? Hmmmm?? By the way, where is Braniff Airlines these days? Weren't they "edgy" with miniskirted attendants back in the 70's? Guess it wasn't such a good marketing idea....even during the real "love" decade. Sorry, SWA, but you dropped the bar on this one.
I guess the only person we could have put on the plane that would have offended more new yorkers would have been Bernie Madoff? I work for southwest airlines and I am neither for or against this decal. I do believe southwest got what it wanted BUZZ.....sure we are going to lose some customers over this.....but many will return when they realize that even with this "mistake" that we are still a great company... 35+ years of great community service , charitable donations and safe transportation doesn't get you far if you make one mistake.????...... I am a parent and rather than shield my kid from this I would show him why its wrong. I see all the kids that were sheltered growing up when they are flying , they can barely get to the gate without mommy holding their hand.
I understand both sides of the argument but I just find it funny that this is really that big of a deal, let's focus on the big issues of staying employed and paying our mortgages....
This is not art, it's just plain old bad taste. I feel very sorry for the female employees of Southwest Air. This is just sign that it's time for me to sell my shares and get out of the airline business.
Dear Female SWA Stockholder,
I am a female SWA Employee, and I don't need or want you to feel sorry for me. I work for a great Company that encourages me to be myself and have FUN while doing my job. My Company has never cut my pay or benefits nor has my Company ever asked me to compromise my beliefs. My Company provides great job security and treats me better than any other employer that I have had in all my years of employment, which includes 11 years at another major airline. I'm sorry you don't like the decal on SI One and that you want to sell your shares, but I seriously don't need or want your sorrow.
I would like to know how many of you really look at the plane you fly on. Do you really know what is on the outside of the plane? Do you know if you are flying on a plane that has been dedicated to our Hero's of the Heart, the plane that is for the 'adopt-a-pilot' program or a/c 607 which happens to be dedicated to June Morris? I am willing to bet that 90% of the flying public only sees the few feet of plane that is inside the jetway around the door of the aircraft. You know that the plane is tan (old) or blue (newer). Do you really see what is on the rest of the plane? Like a few of you have pointed out- it is a decal and will be coming off the plane soon. Then we can all find something else to complain about.
I am very proud to say that I am a Southwest Airlines Flight Attendant and have luved working at this company for the past 14 1/2 years. Go Southwest Airlines!
I am a Southwest Pilot. I will not fly this plane. I am offended.
I wouldn't call this aircraft a mistake. I'm sure there are people out there that are offended by the Arizona state flag as well. I wonder how many customers they lost over that plane (Arizona One) .... Hmmm. Southwest Airlines has done things their own way for many years and for that, I have a lot of respect for them. Even with the our dire economic times Southwest is doing better than a lot, if not all of the other airlines. For all of the haters, why don't all of you go hug a tree or something!!! lol
i love that plane, nice plane design.
I am a Southwest Customer. I and my unhungup wife will fly on this plane when we can. We are pleased.
Is there a route schedule?
You go Southwest - keep being the Airline Industry LEADERS that you are!
thanks 'unhungup customer'...we appreciate ya! yeah, hum, let's see...opportunity to see family and friends at a reasonable fare, during an economic downturn, for a price less than the cost of gas, with a 1 in 500 chance of being on the plane with the chick in the bikini on the outside vs. $1200 one-way in a battleship grey model that looks like it just emerged from a battle...priceless.
I am a SWA Employee and am disgusted and embrassed by this!!!!!!! To our SWA Customers...."I am sorry!"
Female SWA Stockholder- As a female employee of WN, I don't want or need you to feel sorry for me either. The SI plane flew into the city I work in last Wed, and we all went out to see it. It is a beautiful plane. My husband (and all of his co-workers) agree!! =) I am not offended, and have not talked to a single person who is. There is so much more to worry about going on in America, lets all lighten up and have a little fun! Southwest is a fantastic company, and I'm happy to be a 10+ yr employee!
Let us keep the SI ad in the spirit of things. We are big advertisers for all sports, pro and college so it keeps with our base advertising. It is temporary and the intent was to announce long awaited service to LGA. Can we not all be excited about new service. Let us not forget about the over 100 million Customers who fly us because of our low fares and great Customer service. Our leaders have worked especially hard to not use paycuts, layoffs and benefit cuts to keep us profitable, this ad did just what we wanted it to for a short period of time we have a beautiful, fit swimsuit model plastered on the side. If you boycott because of that so be it, we are sorry if you are offended but did you know about the thousands of great things SW does locally and nationally? Iam ready for the public to know first hand just how great we are, leaders who do not take crazy ass bonuses and salaries that are way out of whack with the group they lead. I am so proud to be here and hope you come back. We are who we carry and Sports Illistrated and their readers are a big bunch of SW fans.
Unbelieveable. Not the painting or the advertising scheem but the people who are making a big deal out of a little thing. Yes I have children but I am also very realistic. Seriously, how is this any different that what are children are exposed to everyday on the streets, the beaches, the pools, etc...? South West showed numbers, appox. 75 % of the people are fine with this and the remaining 25% are not. Similar to America as we know it. Over 75% of the people are being told what we can and cannot do by 25% of the population. When is the American majority going to stand up for it's rights? Why are we letting the select few tell us what is right and wrong. You Rock Southwest Airlines...
What were you thinking Southwest? I am shocked that a company with your values would stoop so low as to plaster their plane with a barely dressed woman. I fly Southwest several times a year with my four children and would stop cold turkey if we were ever made to board that plane. It objectifies women and confused children. You have lost your "family friendly" status with this and I, for one, am deeply disappointed with a company that I've long admired.
I am surprised that Southwest would do this -after kicking another more-clad lady off of one of their planes. Seeing this image on the side of the aircraft certainly won't do anything to make me want to fly SWA.
Seriously! After attempting to throw not just one, but at least three women off your flights because of issues related to their clothing/appearance/"sexiness"? I'm glad that you think it's a beautiful plane but I encourage you to expand your definition of "beauty," or at least provide us with some alternatives. Having just learned that my friend paide $100 less for a Texas-San Francisco flight on Jet Blue (than I paid on SWA), I now have one more--and perhaps more important--reason to move SWA down the list of possible airlines next time I buy a ticket. Make up your minds about how you feel about scantily clad women.
Oh I wish I still had a plane and didn't have to go on the TV show with those teenagers to pay the pool heating bill since everyone stopped buying my magazine.
Hey...got an idea! Why don't you put Playboy on the wings of the airplane for people to read while they eat the free peanuts???
Yours,
Hef
Congrats to SW for being progressive in the PC world. Of course this will bother some people. Guess they never go to the beach. Or just plain do not get it.
Mary B
I think its great! What sets SWA apart is its reputation for excellent customer service and well, FUN! I'm certain most of those who have complained about it subscribe to SI so why all the wailing? It's sporty and not in bad taste at all-if SWA hadn't chose to do it, I'm sure Richard Branson would!
To those who find the picture of a girl in a bikini on a an airplane "tacky" or "sexual harassment":
Get a life! Haven't you ever been to a beach? If you don't like it, go fly Air Taliban.
Are you kidding me? People are upset about a plane painted with a swimsuit model and calling it pornography?! This country really needs to figure out what is important and what is not. I worked in the retail video game industry for 10 years and the most troubling part of my job was the reversal of values and common sense I experienced every single day. The upcoming example I am referring to is the most common and can be validated by any person in the retail video game industry across this country, it was not and is not an isolated incident.
The game Grand Theft Auto, any version, contains extreme violence, gore, foul language, etc… it has an ESRB rating of Mature for 17 or older. In some states it is a crime to sell this game to anyone under the age of 17 without parental consent, and it has more severe punishments than selling cigarettes to a minor including loss of job, heavy fines and jail time. I have had parents and grandparents come in to purchase this game for teens and pre-teens. I explained the contents of the game, the brutality that can be done and the reality of beating someone to death in this game, but it doesn’t matter to them at all and they still want to purchase the game for the child. Then I mention to them that there is also nudity in the game and then they get upset and say, “No way! Not for my child!”
So the conclusion I have from this, is that it is ok for a child to witness or virtually participate in acts of extreme violence and murder. As soon as a naked breast, something that is natural and beautiful, something that every child who has ever been breast fed has already seen, something that throughout their life they are most likely going to see again, becomes exposed, people all of a sudden have a moral issue.
In the situation with Southwest, this plane displayed a Swimsuit model in a tasteful, artistic manner and pictures similar to this can even be seen on TV or in any of the fashion, tabloid and intimate apparel section in a department store catalog, and yet people are getting upset. Wake up people; in other countries it is common for families with children of all ages to go the beach, which are primarily topless, and spend the day. Advertisements and billboards may display the occasional topless woman to promote a product. The human body is a natural and god given thing, unlike violence and murder, teach your child what to respect and what is wrong. Here in this country we feel we are superior to the rest of the world in many things, but in this respect, the rest of the world is laughing at us.
As a regular Southwest Airlines customer I chuckled this morning as I read, and I quote: "many women do not enjoy having their husbands exposed to explicit pictures ..." in reference to the paint job on your SI-1. Me thinks this is probably because hubby might find your paint job tittilating enough to once again have a sexual interest in wifey. Since in all likelihood it has been decades since this has been so, I suspect that their amorous life is drier than Osama Bin Laden's cave. Regards.
I fly your airline at least 20 times a year, if you give in to any politically correct BS, I will change airlines.
I'm sick and tired of a few gutless nags that have nothing better to do influence our right to have some humor and lightness in our existence.
tell anybody who complains about this to take a hike. They probably want seat assignments too.
I love it
The American public never ceases to amaze me!
If there was a picture of Jesus on the plane would they complain, or a gun totting rebel, or a Hummer ad, or a pensioner selling haemorrhoid cream? Probably not!
But put a picture of a young woman in a bikini and the sky falls in.
Have these people never been to a beach, the idea that some people are terrified and horrified by a photo is beyond belief.
If it was a picture of the statue of David would they demand a fig leaf? Have they never been to an art gallery and seen a nude painting, probably only with eyeshades on so they wont be offended.
Small, prudish, immature minds, no wonder your country is in so much trouble on so many fronts. I live in New Zealand for the record
What is it about the American people? I know numerous parents who will let their children watch just about anything violent on TV but OH MY GOD, it's a model in a bikini! Call the Puritanical police! Get over it folks, it's just a human body, in a bikini.
I think having Bar on the side of a plane is awesome !! The people complaining and whining about this really need to get a life !! They are probably overweight, unsightly individuals who would never be caught dead in a swim suit in public or some religous zealot trying to shove their misguided beliefs down our throats. And odds are, they don't even fly this airline that much !!! And even if they do, GUESS WHAT, they don't have to !! Worrying about your kids seeing this ?? Apparently you don't take them to the beach or a public simming pool. Because if you did, I'm sure they would see much "worse" ! For example, seeing people, morbidly obese, wearing swim attire that is extremely inappropriate. Exert your energies protesting thigs that REALLY matter in these trying times. Such as the atrocities in Darfur or the way our government is squandering tax payer dollars to "bail out" mis-managed companies paying huge bonuses to executives running companies into the ground and costing hard working individuals their jobs !!. Talk about offensive !! Give me Bar on the side of an airplane any day !!
Why is it that when women rail against sexism they are labeled prudes? One has NOTHING to do with the other.
And when are advertising people going to get that objectifying women is, not only wrong and hurtful to women, it is soooo outdated. It's what companies use when they've got nothing else. Creativity? Naw, let's just pay a "model" to take off her clothes.
Pathetic. I've pledged my loyalty to SWA for many years. I'm a frequent business traveler and right now I'm shredding my free drink coupons. I'll NEVER fly SWA again. They can keep their nuts and canned jokes. And their skanky fuselage.
And to all of you pro-porn apes, what are you doing on this site? Don't you have anything "better" to look at?
I find the SI picture on the plane quite offensive. I always liked SWA, but am offended enough that I will not fly my family on your airline for sometime. You might attract 20 somethings to your airline with this promotion, but I suspect the message the SI pictures send to teen girls and boys is way too sexual for families to tolerate. You have changed your image from fun and easy going, to tacky and somewhat desperate. Perhaps that is what you are looking for.
As a frequent passenger (and promoter/converter) of Southwest Airlines, I'm extremely disappointed to see them lower their standards. Isn't this a double standard - kick those off the plane who are scantily clad, but plaster someone with even less clothing on the outside of the airplane? We love Southwest and their family-friendly service. In the past, I didn't think twice about choosing them first over other airlines; this, however, but will definitely make me think twice before purchasing future tickets.
What a bunch of prudes. It's a girl in a bikini. The way some of you people talk you would think she was riding laying there naked with her legs spread open.
I think you folks better get off the Internet and go flail yourselves for viewing that picture
What's the big deal? Its great advertisement for both parties involved! If you are traveling with kids and you take them to one of the airport store you will see SI along side Playboy & other magazines much worse! So will you complain about those being out in the public for your kids to see as well?
Why is it all you people have to constantly have something to complain about?
Im pretty sure SWA thought about the pros & cons of this before they did it. So let them do their thing & let it go unnoticed, otherwise you just play a pawn into their marketing scheme!
As an SWA stockholder since 1974 I love this idea ! It's a shame there are so many closed minded people out there !
I 'luv' that Southwest is fun and she is a beautiful model but the bikini and all on a plane is just too much - I would hate for my young daughter to see this so we wont be flying SWA for now (assuming this wont last forever). It's just not very classy - also I love sports - if you want to promote SI promote SPORTS! She is beautiful and it is a lovely magazine cover - leave it there.
'Company with a conscience', as Southwest.com says? That would be great, but the SI model artwork implies the lack of one.
This hoo-haa has made international headlines, for all the wrong reasons.
Firstly, I'm just stunned and amazed that any woman would seriously object to this on the grounds that they don't want their husbands exposed to it. I mean, c'mon! Are you serious? Talk about relationship problems!!
Secondly, I'm a little surprised that anyone would worry about their kids seeing it. OK, so your kids are banned from the beach or even the local pool? What, forever?
This just reinforces the unfortunate image of the southern US in the eyes of many decent and reasonable overseas visitors as a region of complete prudes. Paranoid, ridiculous prudes. I am an Aussie, BTW.
Too many uptight, narrow minded, liberals in our society. It's a fully covered woman on the side of an airplane...big deal. If you don't like it, don't look at it.
Too funny -- Oh, look! A series of posts - all right after one another - all in the same form of grammar/style/syntax -- all announcing the marketing employees as geniuses: February 11th's 17:17, :18, :19, :23, :25, :29.....Gee, I bet those posts don't have the same IP Address! Marketing guy, if you're freaking out about the bad press and you're trying to sneak in some compliments, you might not want to do it all at once.....come and post daily, maybe. That would be less obvious.
But, sorry. The plane has scared away many, it seems.
Would you stop going to your dentist if there is a copy of SI in the waiting room?
Do you take your kids to the beach?
LIGHTEN UP PEOPLE!
Continue on Southwest. You will find that the amount of passengers that complain but still fly will not change, brilliant marketing strategy. Create the hype and still get the same customers to fly despite there saying this is tacky. I have two young girls 4 and 10 that think it is cool because they relate it to Hawaii and the beach, because we wont tell them it is wrong and create the missperception that they can't wear that when they go to the beach.
Carry on.
I think its great. Nothing wrong with this at all. All of you who are offended need to get a life and worry about the more important things in life. There is nothing offensive about a beautiful girl in a bathing suit. Girls wear bathing suits all the time! What's the big freakin' deal about it. If you're looking for something to complain about, HOW ABOUT OBAMA RUNNING THIS COUNTRY INTO THE GROUND WITH HIS RIDICULOUS SPENDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, SWA likes to advertise as being no class....but now we are apparently to believe it is really low class
This looks awesome! It should give more of airplanes like this one!!
Habt Ihr noch alle Tassen im Schrank. Prüde USA. Waffen sind legal aber brüste herzeigen nicht ?
You Americans are so damn prude, that is ridiculous. No person outside the US would care if there is a covered woman on the airplane. How can anybody be offended by this?!?
All day long you can see most violent things on TV but whenever a naked breast would be shown it's scandalous. GET REAL HYPOCRITES!!!
why shouldn't a kid see a woman in a swimsuit?? what is the problem?? you guys make absolutely no sense!! don't act like kids have never seen a woman in a bikini before!!
just because some women are too fat and don't want their kids to see how women can look like when they don't eat at mcdonalds three times a day, you can't complain about this picture!
don't change something 95% of the people are ok with, rather change the remaining 5% of the prudes!
As a 27-year-old female, I see absolutely nothing wrong with this and I approve 100%. She's beautiful, it's a tasteful photo (not like those Lindsay Lohan-wanting-to-be-Marilyn photos we saw a few months back in a magazine), and it's only temporary anyway. Loosen up the strings a little, folks, and you'll see it's not that bad. Primetime television, even ABCFamily, features more scandalous stuff than this on any given night and yes, your little darlings are subjected to a lot worse at school (coming from a former 8th grade teacher that taught in a "good" school, I can promise you that!).
I'll be actively searching for Southwest Airlines tickets from this day forward. I want to fly an airline that's laid back, relaxed, and knows how to have a good time.
Oh come on people, why don't you just loosen up and enjoy it. Why is it that people have to constantly have something to complain about? And those that are worried about their kids seeing it; are you banning your kids from going to the beach or even the pool?
I would like to see a good looking guy, that would be a good idea!!!!!!!!
oh man sh looks nice !! prude people ...
maybe I'm just different, but I don't understand how having a bikini model on the side of an airplane is any different than having them on TV, on magazines at the grocery store, pictures in department stores, etc
The swimsuit issue is one of the most anticipated sports illustrated magazine each year, and I think it's great that Southwest has partnered with them.
I love you puritans from the US! :-)
Only in the US and in islamic countrys somebody would care about this plane.
Do you really think you cannot look at this picture and treat the flight attendants with respect?
How do you prevent your kids from dangerous situations like women at the beach??
The whole world is laughing about you and your overreactions.
I think more than anything, I'm disappointed in SWA. There could be so many other 'fun', 'edgy', or 'entertaining' options for them. I just paid for my 73 year old mother to fly SWA to meet her first great-grandson. Had she been placed on this plane - trust me - you would have heard about it from her. And also from me. While neither of us would object to a young woman choosing to model or wear a skimpy bathing suit, there is a time and a place for everything. On the side of a large, very public plane is not either. I will be seriously considering other airlines the next time I spend my money on airfare.
And I appreciate the opportunity to share my opinion the same as everyone else. Thank you.
I JUST WANTED TO SAY IM REALLY DISAPPOINTED WE DONT WANT NAKED WOMEN ON AIRPLANES!!!
How do I get on that plane?!?!
Now that's one fast woman! I'll be sure to watch out for her!
wow! my friends, family and i will never fly with southwest again!
I'd be willing to bet that the women complaining about this are the sames ones who probably couldn't fit into the swimsuit on Bar, or wouldn't be caught dead on the beach. Get a life! Grab another box of Ding-Dongs/Twinkies/Ho-Ho's/Malomars/etc. Nobody is saying that she's the perfect woman (she sadly continues the trend on Madison Avenue that thin is in), but just because you're insecure about your own bodies doesn't mean it's a bad thing!
So disappointing. What more can you say, than it's just so inappropriate.
Sex sells, what can you say?
I think its a bit tacky but it is their plane to do with what they see fit. If they want to slap a half naked beautiful lady like that on THEIR plane, then by all means do so!
I would be happy to fly on that plane anytime.
Shes hot and damn let me on that plane.
This is Kick-ass. I want to ride that plane if you know what i mean.
This is the greatest plane ever made. Congrats Southwest for raising the bar.
Why can't there ever be a half-naked man on anything!?! Darn it, guess you have to make your perverted male company heads happy somehow.
Very poor marketing choice Southwest. I for one will be looking into alternative airline options. This is disrespectful of your female flyers and shows a lack of corporate conscientiousness. I am glad you are happy that some low-brain male customers are happy with your decision and that you choose to ignore that part of your market share that are families and females (funny, I imagined that as a large portion but maybe not). Again, I will be showing you my vote with my dollars and no longer fly Southwest.
Thank you.
Wow-- I think for me, the reason it matters, is that it's pretty tired to show women in this way and not men. Look around. Why not have a guy on a plane too? I think the reason has to do with society still being much more confortable showing women in this way and seeing women as objects. Southwest played into the same old boring tired junk we have to deal with all the time.
For folks worried about their kids or moms, etc., I'm pretty sure they will be ok. To the people here who are slamming larger women, etc. -- you are making the point for the critics more beautifully than they could.
100% perfection .... that is for the 737 and Bar!
What a welcome addition to my town, Las Vegas!
I dont see why people are upset about this. You cant tell me that
these people who are complaining have never seen a chick in a bikini
on the beach, in a movie, on a television show or online. Im sure
Southwest got a nice check for allowing this giant flying
advertisement to be placed on the side of its airplane. In a time
when everybody is strapped for cash, we shouldn't judge a company for
trying to find a unique way to stay in business. These people need to
complain about real issues like wasteful spending by government,
genocide in Darfur or the fact the U.S. has yet to catch Osama Bin
Laden. Those are real issues!
This is trashy and disgusting. I am disappointed in you, Southwest. I guess everyone has a price, don't they? I hope that next time you're offered the 'opportunity' to support flying porn (and accept a huge payoff for doing it) you choose integrity instead.
Love the plane and the peanuts! Keep it up - it's good to see a business with passion!
I think it's quite beautiful.
We fly Southwest almost everywhere we go and I do have to say that I am really disappointed. In this day and age we as parents are busy trying to teach respect and healthy self images. I agree Bar is beautiful, but just as I would not promote my 8 year old boy to look through the swimsuit issue, I would be a bit red in the face traveling with him on this plane. As for my daughter, she is faced with images of beautiful people everyday, but I don't ever want her to think that it is necessary to show sexy to be loved enough to be plastered all over the place, nor do I want her fignting weight issues trying to look "perfect". This really puts a lot of pressure and discomfort to those of us who are trying to promote and practice responsible parenting. How about some Olympic champions?
Who cares what a bunch of uptight, fascists think?! They don't even have the money to fly! Keep up the good work SW! The plane looks amazing!
I don't find this to be porn, nor highly offensive. It is simply tacky, low class and cheap looking. I'm not offended by a woman in a bikini, but the saying there's a time and place for everything comes to mind. It comes off very "Hooters" and rather unprofessional. I agree with the other posters regarding SWA coming off as hypocrites. One minute they have strict, modest standards and in the next breath wrap their plane with a sexy, scantily clad model. I guess the two women who were nearly booted off of the plane should have handed over cash first. They have shown that their standards will lower when the price is right.
i do not appreciate the partially clothed woman on the aircraft. in some way i feel like i am approving this when i buy my ticket. what concerns me more is the lack of inspections for metal fatigue , it only cost 7 million dollars fine from FAA, that money could be used better somewhere else. I love SW and the way they do business but would hope for younger cabin personnel, old really sucks...
Is this really the same southwest that booted a paying passenger off the flight for showing too much skin...too me Southwest is a fake a phony as the politicians.
I would NOT want my children to see this plane so will take our business else where.
Tasteless and tacky. Stop peddling smut. Why not show pictures of our troops? I will never use this airline again.
How about putting a hot looking male on the plane. Us girls need eye candy, too!
Great ad!!! If you are prude and can't deal with it, look away!!!
I will definitely remember this when deciding which airline to choose. I am completely turned off by this advertising campaign.
coolest plane ever, i will only fly Southwest from now on. they need to start putting this on all their planes.
Looks awesome you need to do more of your aircraft like that . And if you don't like it don't look at it ,go back in your Bomb shelters and pray.
I'm a woman, a Christian, have 4 young children and I find nothing offensive about this plane. This is not soft porn.
all i have to say is that sex sell whether you like it or not
While I'm neither for nor against this, as I am really indifferent in the matter, I do have to admit that Southwest is being quite hypocritical kicking women who are not wearing "family friendly attire" off their planes, but coating the front in a bikini model. I think the poor woman who was kicked off your flight then hears about this ad definitely deserves a large apology.
A little hypocritical with the whole clothing shenanigans from before...
..but right on for Southwest! I'm a woman and I'm totally for it! People need to lighten up, geez!
by the way, sure it might get some neg press, but they're getting press. Sounds like $$ either way to me!
I would like Southwest Airlines to issue a statement regarding this plane and request that it be directed toward young girls. Almost without exception, young girls are subjected to enormous social pressure to achieve impossible beauty standards...the same standards now being promoted by Southwest. Virtually all research confirms the damaging effects such media portrayals on the health, confidence, performance and self-esteem of girls.
As a mother of two of those young girls (and three boys), I am very disappointed that Southwest made this choice. Out of a virtually unlimited number of choices, you chose THIS?!!??!!? Go home and explain it to your daughters, then come forward and explain it to mine.
YOU HYPOCRITES WHO THREW A WOMAN OFF YOUR PLANE FOR WEARING WAYYYY MORE THAN THIS!!!!!
I just canceled the 7 Southwest tickets i had on hold for Spring Break and will be flying a competitor airline - thank you very much!
I will boycott South West until they learn that children fly in planes and this is SOOOOOOOOO inappropriate its ridiculous!
I AM APPALLED. I dont care if its in Sports Illustrated becxause you can CHOSE to buy that and chose to view it but this plane EVERYONE is forced to see.
Thanks SWA for this beautiful plane! Great pic! And also great marketing! Maybe it will also help some of the US people to understand it is normal for women to wear bikini in the western world. And why should any kids, women or whoever have a problem with this? She is beautiful and she wears a bikini! Perfect! And if anybody has a problem with it because sex sells: paint a guy in shorts at the other side of the plane! That would be even more fun!
For those claiming its no different than taking your child to the beach or poll! Get a clue. There women are in bathingsuits and can be active: swim, play volleyball, etc THEY ARENT JUST LAYING OUT SEDUCTIVELY SCREAMING COME YOU KNOW WHAT ME!
And what pool are you hanging out at that has girls in bikinis as skimpy as this??? I live in S California for goodness sake and very rarely do girls wear bikinis this skimpy with breasts hanging out.
What the ole saying. "There is no such thing as BAD publicity". I think its great. Fly on wit yer hard on Southwest.
I think she's a beautiful woman. I also think it's a great photo. However, I'm not sure it's appropriate for the side of an airplane. It has absolutely nothing to do with flying (at least the Shamu plane took you to San Diego). What it says to me is, "We (Southwest) are so in the hole that we've cooked up this ridiculous marketing campaign with SI to make some extra cash...and we don't care how our customers feel about it. So there!"
Can I bring my girlfriend wearing a bikini like this on a flight to Vegas?
Whats shocking to me is how many Southwest employees are writing on here and are totally offended! So Southwest has proved it doesnt care about consumers/families or its employees!!!! BOYCOTT SOUTHWEST!!!
Your planes are sexist and completely inappropriate. I (and my family) will NEVER FLY YOUR PLANES AGAIN!!
Trashy. I won't be taking my daughter on to that plane
To all you sexually repressed, hayseed Republicans who are offended by the sight of a beautiful woman, please go back to your basements listening to Rush Limbaugh and having sexual fantasies over Man Coulter and her bulging adam's apple.
I really don't care about this except that I read Southwest is getting in trouble over it. I admit, when I first saw it I was a little suprised...then I realized that I never really see what the plane looks like except when they are taxing around the airport. If you go to any beach, or any pool, you will see similarly dressed women, they just happen to not be as beautiful as Bar. This is far from porn, grow up. There is really no reason a child can't see a person dressed in a bikini, this is not the 1920's!
Kudos to Southwest for changing it up and keeping people interested in your company.
DA! IF YOU DON'T LIKE DON'T LOOK AT IT ! BY THE WAY YOU CAN'T SEE IT 34,000 FEET. YOU WILL ONLY SEE IT WHEN YOU BOARD THE AIRCRAFT.
i'm just sorry that the sight of a beautiful, clothed woman is so embarrassing and disturbing.
to those that don't like it, i politely ask you NOT to permit YOUR inability to appreciate the simple pleasures of other people to encourage you to become rude and demanding.
i don't like peanut butter myself and the sight of other people eating eat disgusts me. the smell makes me gag. but i wouldn't insist that peanut butter be banned, simple because i don't like it.
Are people really whining about a bikini? Seriously, some of you act like it's the end of the world unless a girl is covered head to toe. Is there nudity? No. Is is done in poor taste? No. If this is a worry to you, I truly feel sorry for your existence.
I think the plane is fantastic. More power to u....Southwest !! There is NOTHING wrong with the photo. It amazes me how many narrow-minded people are commenting. It's not hurting anyone..it's just fun marketing. There are plenty more things going on in the world to be angry about.....geez. Get over it! I think it's awesome ! Put a hot guy on the other side....maybe Beckham..
Love makes me want to fly now. To anyone who thiunks this is porn... Get a life and do something constructive. She has clothes on its not porn. To Tina who posted a comment at — Wed, 03/04/2009 - 13:55 go down to Venice, Hunington, or Newport Beach and you will see these same bathing suits. Its the prudes like you that makes this a crappy world. Why must you complain about everything that you dont like? A vast majority of people like it or could careless what there plane looks like on the outside. I am fed up with all the people whinnig and complaing at every little thing. Get a life and worry about your self, who cares if southwest wants to put a beautiful and classy women on their plane. Everyone who is complaining neeeds to take the stick out of there butt and go watch your kids. I hate all you soccer moms who try and ruin every little thing you dont like. GO SOUTHWEST KEEP IT UP.
This is so TASTELESS! I am a frequent flyer, but I will most definitely not be flying southwest anymore. Just what I want my young children looking at as we take a trip.
Who approved this??? College guys or old perverts? Seriously....classless.
DA ! YOU CAN'T SEE THE PLANE AT 34,000 FEET.
Great. I get a master's degree in business. Next I spend 10 years negotiating my career, rising to a decent position where my expertise and viewpoint are valued. Travel becomes essential as I grow the business and find new buyers across the country.
And then Southwest reminds me that it's really all about T and A. My accomplishements, hell my value as a woman, is to be 23 and naked as possible. Great.
Guys, if you can't understand how humiliating these images can be that's ok. But why not respect women more and not do something so in your face. Can you imaging a business woman getting on that plane with her coworkers? Or the parents of a little girl? At t best you feel akward and embarressed. Badly done Southwest.
I see nothing wrong with this. The swimsuit and the pose are tasteful. At least with the money they received maybe South West won't need a government bailout. Hopefully they'll put a nice looking guy on the other side for us ladies!
Awesome!!!! Makes me want to fly South West!
That looks awesome! I'm booking a flight to Vegas for my husband and I as I write! Some people act as if they have never seen a woman in a swimsuit before. Yet they have a Victoria’s Secret catalog on their counter or their segnificant other gets SI...And what’s in that? Exactly. Don't be afraid, its just a girl, not an illegal alien...or is she??? humm.
That is a human body. Gods gift to you. Enjoy it, use it for good and to help others.
Southwest thanks for not turning into the Taliban.
See you in Vegas.
Its not offensive, Its rather tastefully done. Go complain somewhere else and leave the plane alone.
