Return of Randomness
I've posted before about how I like the randomness of my job. After reading some of the posts and comments, it appears that lots of people appreciate randomness as well. It doesn't necessarily matter what the blog post is, if someone wants to ask about a future city they just ask. Or maybe they just want to let us know about a nice Flight Attendant. So, in celebration of all that is random, this is another random post. Anything you've got. I'll start.
Boise State and their two-point conversion??? Wow! Would have never put money on Florida. Can't believe March Madness is right around the corner (Go Badgers!). Love all of Malcom Gladwell's books and would love to have a beer with him. Best Mexican restaurant is Los Dos Molinos--specifically the salsas and the enchilada dinner. Why doesn't Southwest fly to Missoula, Montana? (That was for my parents and Bill) Woot.com starts may day off with a laugh and is my second favorite web site, after southwest.com. Need to find a place to take my once-a-year ski trip. Is it Friday yet?
Thanks. It was great to get that all off of my mind. Now, go away you kiniggets or I shall taunt you a second time.

Hi Jill,
Here's a bit of randomness for you. I'm not sure this is the appropriate place to leave such a comment, but hey, you asked for it!
I've been visiting southwest.com nearly every day in anticipation of an upcoming trip I have in May. For weeks now, your web site has indicated that you are currently accepting reservations through May 10. I have a suggestion.
Could you offer visitors the ability to sign up for an email notification alerting them of when their future travel dates are being booked? I know that I have to travel the weekend of May 19 and I am loyal to Southwest and want to ensure a good deal and a convenient flight time. It would be very cool if you offered this type of notification service. People could simply enter their email address and their future travel dates and boom! They get an email when those dates become "book-able".
Other than that - Southwest is hands down the best airline I have ever flown with. Keep up the good work!
This morning's DING! offer was sent out twice (same offers, headline, etc., but two separate notices in the DING! application). That's pretty random!
Yeah the boise state game was good. So was the rosebowl. USC 32 Michigan 18. The trojans dominated the wolverines on new years day. It looks like the men of troy will win their 10th national championship next year. Fight on.
The Boise State game was awesome. I was at the game and it had to be the hardest game to watch for a Boise fan, or Oklahoma fan. We have followed Boise for years so we were very happy at the end. My thought leaving the stadium and watching all those charter buses pull out was, "Oh I would love to be on the charter flight back to Boise tonight". So my questions to all those FA's out there How fun or difficult are charters to work?
When is the SWA IT Dpt going to finish revamping the SWA Website. Everyone on the blog made such a big deal about how the "New Website" looks when in fact, only the main page has been redone - not a complaint - just have been 'randomly' wondering why everyone was so excited about one page of a website being redone. I haven't seen that much excitement since Coke launch Cherry Coke!

On-line Per Diem Calculator for Pilots & Flight Attendants!!!
I apologize for posting this in this manner, but I wanted to get the word out to Southwest Employees...I have developed an on-line per diem calculator for pilots and flight attendants. This per-diem calculator can assist in determining the deductions for which you are eligible this tax season. You can seriously save yourselves hundreds of dollars by using the calculator. Check it out!!! Feedback has been very positive!!! Spread the word!!!

I'm with Carolyn. I am also waiting to book a flight for the end of May. I'd like to do it soon, as it is the last step in preparing the travel details of this trip, but every time I visit the site, bookings can only be made through May 10th. I definitely want to book with Southwest because it's the only airline that provides non-stop flights for this trip... but I can't guarantee my patience will last. If you can't do the e-mail thing, could we at least know when we can book beyond May 10th? That way I don't have to remember to check the site every day.
Thanks!
I'm thinking that I want to go visit Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park this Spring. Fly into LAS and drive over. I'm rooting for the Colts to win the Super Bowl. I'm disappointed I didn't win the "bring 10 friends or so to the Super Bowl" contest. I like oatmeal. When will Southwest start service in Harrisburg, PA? I brought some baked ziti for lunch today. And where is my hairbrush?
I like monkeys.
Don't particularly care for chatty people in the bathroom. I don't care if I know you, please don't talk to me while I'm doing my business. I don't want to talk to you while you're doing yours, either.
Why does peanut butter taste so much better when it's melted?
During my first trip to Canada, a homeless guy asked me for change. I reached into my pocket, gave him what I had, and we wished each other a nice day. Two steps later, I remembered that the Canadian one and two dollar denominations are coins. Probably gave that guy $17. Nuts...
Random enough?

Great randomness!!!
Schedules, product promotion, web site comments, Super Bowl predictions, hair brushes, monkeys and peanut butter oh my!
Even someone with a highly refined sense of humor.
It made my week!
Thanks guys!
Wow, Is Southwest considering adding Newark because of problems at Long Island? Just finished tracking a pair of flights (one to EWR and the other from EWR) The first was Flight 8602 that left Orlando (MCO) at about 5:20 am CST and landed in Newark at about 7:10 am CST. Then it left Newark as Flight 8008 at about 8:56 AM CST and is about to land in Fort Lauderdale (FLL). Or did someone from Newark charter the whole plane for the Super Bowl and it was sent up for Orlando?
I just realized it's February. Is that random or just oblivious?
Great post Jill...luv your randomness.
Wow, Angela,
That was random! But it's only been February for a few hours. Of course, February is only a few hours long anyway.

Do you know why Polar Bears don't eat Penguins? Just thought i would add a random question. Did i already ask this before, or is this just Deja vu?
Hey Eric,
my first thought is that Polar Bears find the taste of penguins to be fowl. Seriously, Polar Bears live in the arctic, and penguins live in the antipodes (southern hemisphere) so their paths never cross. However, seals dine on penguins, and seals are like filet mignon to Polar Bears--go figure.
The original Blog Boy
I always thought penguins tasted like chicken...
I'm trying to figure out why my dog never really tries to eat the cats. I mean, he chases them but I've never seen him actually sit down and gnaw on one. The cats, however, do try to eat the fish. At leats that's what I think they're doing. They bat at the aquarium constantly. I know my dog is a carnivore and not very picky and the smell of cat is obviously something he finds delicious (don't ask how I know this one.) but he has never tried to eat one of them. Oh well, I guess they can't get EVERYTHING right in the cartoons, can they?
Hi All!
I'm going to attend a group orientation session in Burbank this Tues. Is ADD a disqualifier? I'm afraid of sock puppets.
Wish me luck!
Dwayne
Give Blog Boy a Candy Corn for the correct answer.
Justin:
Actually penguins taste more like Blue Footed Boobies, which taste similar to Albatross, which in turn taste like kookaburras, and they taste just like chicken.
How can the pub be out of both Bass AND Boddington's in the same night?
I like Newcastly anyway.
Why can't I seem to get any work done today?
Which came first, the chicken or the kookaburra?
North Texas Weather - there's random for ya.......
Is it 5 oclock somewhere?
Went to Luv at First Bite yesterday.
I now understand the dynamics of sock puppets.
My therapist warned me against going, but I didn't listen.
Is my mental state considered OJI since it was after a company event?
I mean, I seriously THOUGHT it was Colleen behind there, but I found out it wasn't. It's almost like the time I found out that the Easter Bunny wasn't real. I had nightmares about it last night. This could take me months, or even years to recover from.
I think Jeramy Brian needs to go see my therapist if he thinks Raider Nation is going anywhere next year, let alone to the Super Bowl. It's easy....it's a 13 Step Recovery program called "Welcome to Mediocrity" with the 13th step being choosing a team that might do something in the next decade, like the Eagles. I think it would do him well.
Paco, Are you insane??? The raiders have 3 superbowl rings. How many do your eagles have? If I remember correctly, the only superbowl the eagles went to was in 1981 and the raiders pounded them into oblivion...The silver and black has and always will be committed to excellence. Just win baby!!!!!!!!!!
Paco, The eagles have never won a superbowl. Raiders have won 3...
Go Raiders, Lakers, Dodgers and Trojans!!!!!
I have an extremely random question. Is Southwest ever going to offer discounted fares again from PDX to Spokane? I have been watching the Ding notifications for months and nothing for PDX to Spokane.
Thanks
As a reservation sales agent, Its very frustrating to have to tell our valued customers several times a day that we can't take their money because we have no schedule to sell. Our customers turn to "us" for more information. And we simply have none to give them. Telling our busy passengers to keep checking back is not an acceptable answer. If we had more information regarding our schedule, It would save reservations a ton unnecessary "call backs" . We try very hard to maintain a "1 call resolution" in reservations. I look forward to the possibility of booking our valued customers and collecting revenue for our company in a more timely and effecient manor.
Why do people say, "I saw it with my very own eyes," or "I heard it with my very own ears?" Who else's eyes would you see it with, or who else's ears would you hear it with? :)
Leah,
I'm not sure that I would want to see it through Kim Seale's eyes.

Two random thoughts:
1 - We (your blogging public) need a "Random Thoughts Go Here" topic each month so it doesn't roll off the front page.
2 - I absolutely LOVE (LUV?) the candy hearts replacing the peanuts. I'm guessing it will be a 24 hour thing in honor of Valentine's Day, but it's COOL!
Ha, ha Brian! You're right! :)
This goes out to a special flight attendant I met while flying from albuquerque, NM to Phoenix, AZ on the morning of Jan 19, 2007. I believe she said she lived in New Mexico. This person was off duty at the time but introduced herself as a Southwest flight attendant. I consider myself very lucky that she chose to sit next to me. She was very sweet, and considerate. What I remember most about her was her love for her job. She told me many stories about her experiences that I found very interesting. I only wish the flight would have lasted much longer. I have flown many times with several airlines but this by far will be my most memorable flight.. I can honestly say your airlines is very lucky to have her working on your team. As a letter carrier in Maryvale, Phoenix I see several planes go overhead daily, and I know she is out there somewher making customers happy. I only wish I could let her know the impression she made upon me. I was so impressed I plan to make all my future reservations with Southwest . Thanks to all your dedicated employees. Frank, Phoenix, AZ
I would like to second Jill's comment on Southwest flying to Montana - after all it is the "Last Great Place!" Does anybody else agree? Can we get a Southwest flight into Missoula or Kalispell - rather than having to fly into Spokane and drive 4 hours? Glacier Nat'l Park, Flathead Lake and Moose Drool beer - come on SWA, do you know what you are missing!
I fly SWA on a regular basis for my business and pleasure trips - but not to MT. Instead, I'm forced to deal with all those over priced and incompetent carriers.
Herb, Colleen, someone - please take a look at MT for a new destination! I swear, there are great people up here and you'll love it!
Yes, P-L-E-A-S-E yes! Come to Kalispell or Missoula... this transplanted Texan will love you and promise you my first born... no wait, she's 25 . . .
You might be really surprised how many people would jump at the chance to have a real service airline tie up at our airports.
Please? I'll buy you a Moose Drool . . . maybe a case!
thanks for the info on penguins and polar bears! I was looking it up, and yours was the first site that I found to explain the phenomenon that they never fight. I had a few theories, but I'm glad to know the real reason now!
I just thought I'd say how helpful your site was.
Please, please start flying to Missoula. I don't want to have to drive to Spokane to get a Southwest flight.
