Last week, we announced our first set of ten winners for a very exciting 1,600 ticket giveaway in honor of Southwest’s 40th anniversary to spread the LUV even further to the communities we serve. Nonprofit organizations focused on community initiatives that concentrate on education, diversity, military, environment, and families facing serious illness had the chance to share their compelling story along with a photo to explain how 40 roundtrip tickets would help them achieve their missions in the community.
Today, we’re excited to announce our second set of ten winners who are positively impacting their communities and making a difference in peoples’ lives one at a time. Read on below, and you’ll see why these organizations touched our hearts after reading their mission and affect in their hometown.
Don’t stray too far from NUTS About Southwest because we’ll announce our third set of winners next Tuesday on August 9 and our final set of winners on August 16. We can hardly wait to see how our winners will use their set of 40 tickets to achieve their missions. Congratulations to the first 20 winners so far!

American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE)
The AABE is a national association of energy professionals founded and dedicated to ensure the input of African Americans and other minorities in the discussions of energy. The AABE educates under-served communities on the opportunities in energy and their focus is on educating the workforce of tomorrow.
The AABE chapter in Lakewood, Colorado will use the 40 roundtrip tickets to bring more deserving students to their regional and national programs that include industry specific training to prepare them for careers in energy.
Home Front Hearts
East Brunswick, NJ
Home Front Hearts serves the families that serve our country by providing access to resources and assistance for military families in need. Military service impacts warriors and their families because of frequent relocations, deployments, and separation from families, friends, and support systems.
Home Front Hearts will use the 40 roundtrip tickets to honor the service of military clients by providing eligible military families the opportunity to visit their wounded warriors in hospital locations far from home, allow a military spouse to visit family for respite during deployment, visit extended family for celebrations, illnesses, or deaths, and connect family members with service members located in cities across the country.
Aguila Youth Leadership Institute
The Aguila Youth Leadership Institute is a college access program for Latino/Latina youth that provides a web of support. Their mission is to empower and prepare Latino/Latina youth for college admissions and graduation through a unique approach based upon a greater cultural understanding as a guide to personal , academic, and professional excellence as future leaders.
The Aguila Youth Leadership Institute will use the 40 roundtrip tickets to provide students with the opportunity to visit campuses across the country to help in college decision making and to expand their horizons and seek opportunities that would benefit their educational attainment along with their professional and personal development.
National Federation of the Blind (NFB)
The purpose of the NFB is to help blind persons achieve self-confidence and self-respect and to act as a vehicle for collective self-expression by the blind. The NFB strives to education the public and achieve full integration of the blind into society on a basis of equality.
The NFB has produced a series of science programs for blind youth. For many participants, these programs are their first experience away from home and their first experience around successful blind scientists and other blind mentors.
The NFB will use the 40 roundtrip tickets to for blind participants to attend the NFB Junior Science Academy. These students will learn that they can accomplish anything given the training and opportunity.
Association of Fraternal Leadership & Values (AFLV)
Fort Collins, CO
The AFLV exists to stimulate the growth and development of fraternity/sorority council and chapter leaders by promoting leadership, educational, and values based on experiences and resources for student leaders, their advisors, and the larger fraternal market.
The AFLV will use the 40 roundtrip tickets to bring student leaders from across the country to work alongside the people of Tuscaloosa on construction and tornado clean-up projects. For 40 students to work eight hours a day for four days, they can contribute 1,280 man hours to those desperately in need of assistance in Tuscaloosa.
The mission of 1N10 is to serve LGBTQ youth and young adults and enhance their lives by providing empowering social and service programs that promote self‐expression, self‐acceptance, leadership development, and healthy life choices.
“Imagine for the first time you are surrounded by love and acceptance from staff and youth that all accept you the way that you are and appreciate you, honor you, and celebrate you! This year we launch our most awesome LGBTQ Leadership camp OUTdoors: LGBTQ Leadership Experience. This is our fourth year dedicating four full days to help fulfill the dreams and build skills for our LGBTQ youth. Our goal this year is to reach out to other communities, like New York City, the Center in Los Angeles and the LGBTQ youth centers in Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. We work with the highest risk LGBTQ youth. The youth we are inviting to come from these fabulous other cities struggle with homelessness, couch surfing, lack of food, and resources for their daily life as well as pressure from society, higher rates of suicide and high rates of depression.”
1N10 already has 48 youth signed up from different cities that are desperately raising money locally to help cover their travel costs and necessary costs associated with this adventure. With 40 roundtrip tickets on Southwest Airlines, they will no longer be limited to only just a few youth that are able to provide their own transportation.
National Park Foundation
From the Grand Canyon to Yellowstone, Gettysburg to Golden Gate, the National Park Foundation (NPF) works to strengthen and preserve America’s treasured places. There are 84 million acres of landscapes, ecosystems, and historic sites across America’s nearly 400 national parks. As the official charity of America’s national parks, NPF works with the National Park Service to promote conservation, educate youth, encourage volunteerism, enhance visitor experiences and connect diverse communities to our shared heritage.
“Whether it’s sending staff to Bryce Canyon to film an Electronic Field Trip to educate youth, sending volunteers to Great Smoky Mountains for a trail restoration event, or bringing inner-city kids to a national park for the first time, the National Park Foundation is on the go!”
NPF will use the 40 roundtrip tickets to fly staff to parks throughout the country, bring partners and volunteers together to conduct park-related work, and much more.
Pacific Asian Consortium in Employment (PACE)
Los Angeles, CA
The mission of PACE is to create economic solutions to meet the challenges of employment, education, housing, business development, and the environment in the Pacific Asian and other diverse communities.
“Together, PACE and Southwest Airlines will champion the importance of public engagement and demonstrate that the diversity of America is also our strength.”
PACE will use the 40 roundtrip tickets to bring a diverse group of Federal program participants to Washington DC to meet their elected representatives and agency officials to tell their stories of how these programs have helped them on their journey to achieve the American Dream.
Los Angeles, CA
Team Rubicon (TR) bridges the gap. They respond to isolated areas, providing crucial life-sustaining medical aid before others can react. They render this aid until larger organizations can catch up. Then they move on.
Since its creation in January 2010, TR has helped thousands of people in Haiti, Chile, Burma, Pakistan, Sudan, and most recently, in Alabama and Joplin, MO.
Each roundtrip ticket from Southwest will serve a dual purpose—it will allow for a veteran to get to a disaster zone more quickly and efficiently where they will use their skills to help those in crisis. At the same time, each ticket helps TR engage one more veteran, providing a renewed sense of purpose after leaving the military. Team Rubicon says that plane tickets are like gold as they will use each one to engage a transitioning veteran while also helping those in time of their greatest need.
Urban Health Plan
Urban Health Plan’s mission is to continuously improve the health status of underserved communities by providing affordable, comprehensive, and high quality primary and specialty medical care and by assuring the performance and advancement of innovative best practices.
“Since 1974, we have played a critical role in providing preventive primary health care to poor and medically underserved people who have difficulty accessing quality, affordable health care. Last year we served more than 43,000 individuals.”
Urban Health will use the 40 roundtrip tickets for patient advocacy by flying their patients to Washington DC to meet with congressional legislators determining the fate of their health centers.
