Where everyone knows your name...
Where everyone knows your name...
So...did an image of Sam, Norm, Cliff, or Woody just pop in your head? While I do love the TV show Cheers, I am referring to an attitude, lifestyle or personality.
Several months ago, my job brought me back to Southwest's Headquarters building. Everyone is so friendly. Even people I've never met before. (My previous position was in a Field Marketing Regional Office--we were super friendly too. There were ten of us, and we all knew each other.) On my way up to my office each morning, I receive multiple "hellos," "how ya doings" or "have a great days." The Employees of Southwest enjoy welcoming each other. When I first started at Southwest, I thought this (greeting other Employees) must be part of a training class or something. It isn't...I checked. Honestly being friendly is just contagious.
So if your place of employment isn't so friendly, try this for a week: Each morning, greet your Coworkers with a "Good Morning"' and include your Coworker's first name. It shouldn't take long, and you'll start a trend.

My last couple of jobs before I came to Southwest were at an insurance company and a property management company. Both were pretty successful, I think, but it seemed the employees were all a little paranoid ... always looking over their shoulders to see who was out to get them. And the higher up they were, the worse it was.
When I first came to Southwest (as a contractor for my firs two years), I kept thinking "What is up with these people! And why are they smiling all the time?!" When you come from "the outside," it's hard to trust the Southwest Culture at first. It is so different.
But almost 12 years later, I guess I have become a

carrier of the virus.
Not a bad thing at all.
While I desperately hope to be a member of the team some day, I currently teach public school.
I've learned that the classes go smoother if I meet every student at the door with a smile and a welcoming greeting.
Rebecca, you're not the only one who wants to become a part of the SWA family! :) I really enjoy what I do & have lots of fun, but I'm just ready for next February to get here; that's when I plan to resubmit my resumÃ
Ha, ha! I said "too" & "also" in the same sentence; I certainly didn't mean to do that!
I enjoy being around & working with people, talking, laughing, joking, & having a good time!
"Double double cheese cheese burger burger please!" :)
Leah,
May we both be lucky enough to earn our place in southwest.... meanwhile, I probably shouldn't tell you I'm an English teacher, hunh? ;-)
Yes, Rebecca! I think so, too. It will happen! :)
Ahh, an English teacher-I'm seriously a stickler for correct grammar! :)
Thought for the day: Did you know that if you add another "l" to the word salad (& capitalize the "D") you get Dallas spelled backwards?
Have you ever been somewhere (say, the store, maybe) before/after work with your ID (forgetting you have it on) & the cashier or whomever says, "Hi!" & calls you by name? Then you think, "How did s/he know my name?" & you realize you have on your ID? :)
"We're glad you're here with your final destination!"
"We'll check your bags without hesitation!"
"If you need some help getting to your gate, let us know and we'll take you so you won't be late!"
"Good day Mrs. Jones, have a nice flight. Come on back, we'll treat you right!"
Well, I must GTB (Go To Bed) now! Tonight, I will dream SWA hires me! :)
SWA LUV!
Agent # 64, Chantell, custom care representative was very perfection and with very good attitude and very helpful. Keep her...she worth a lot.
