  Horny (Toads) in Texas

I remember catching these little guys in Lubbock, Texas where I grew up. When they got really irritated they would squirt a steam of blood out of one of their eyes! I have not seen one in years until last year. I was walking by the canal in Venice, California and a horny toad ran across the path. I did not even know they had any in California, at least not so close to the ocean. Hopefully one day the population will grow to previous levels because they help control the ant population. Thanks for the story!

If you grew up in Texas, or a surrounding state, HORNY can also be applied to a toad.  The “Horny Toad”, or Texas Horned Lizard, is a flat-bodied fierce-looking lizard.  The Texas Horned Lizard is currently on the “threatened species” list in Texas.  Recently, Southwest Airlines partnered with the El Paso Zoo to bring three (3) Horned Lizards from Austin to El Paso.  When you thin

PART II: Southwest Bids for Frontier Airlines

To all the good folks at Frontier. I know it has been and is a really scary time. I have been with SWA for 32+ years and can assure you there IS a focus on what happens to the PEOPLE at Frontier. That has always been the Southwest way!

Follow-up Q&A with Ron Ricks, Executive Vice President Corporate Services and Corporate Secretary

Yesterday, Southwest Airlines confirmed that it is preparing a bid to acquire Denver-based Frontier Airlines, which will be sold at auction in bankruptcy court next month.  I was able to speak with

Making My Mark at the ICDC

Thanks for sharing your story, Jasspreet! I was in the DECA program in high school and learned a lot about the free enterprise system and business. I owe a lot to my teacher, Mr. O. O. Williams! He had a passion for business that was infectious. I joined Southwest Airlines in 1977, just before the industry was deregulated in 1978. During the past 32 years, I believe part of our success has been people that understand the basics of business. Herb and Colleeen added something else to the equation, which is reflected in our mission statement, "To deliver the highest quality of Customer Service with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual pride, and Company Spirit". I sense that you have a bright future ahead of you!

Before I begin, I wanted to say how honored I am to be doing a guest post for my favorite blog!  I am a freshman in high school, and I am a commercial aviation enthusiast (aka: the crazy people who actually enjoy flying!).

  Recollections of Oakland

I really enjoyed your memories of OAK. The airport facilities have been upgraded and it is an easy airport to get in and out of. The history of the airport is rich and inspiring!

Long ago and in an airline galaxy far, far away, I was a young man starting out in my airline career.  The year was 1977, and I had been with Delta Air Lines just about a year (I was a young and skinny, naïve 24-year-old at the time) when I transferred to Oakland (OAK) and helped open our station.  When I realized that today is Southwest’s 20th Anniversary of serving OAK, I began to get

New York La Guardia, My Homecoming

Thanks for all the GREAT information! I have heard using the subway and taxis are the best ways to get around. Is that true?

With the announcement of our schedule to New York LaGuardia (LGA), we asked native New Yorker, Loretta Hohmann, for her thoughts on New York.

Having been born in Manhattan and growing up in Queens (minutes from LGA), my Homecoming dream is coming true!!  The red belly Southwest Airlines planes will soon be gracing the air of NYC!!
