Southwest Airlines is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in many ways.  We designed a specialty package for our peanuts, created a special poster for our airports (designed by Dallas artist José Suaste), and will be closing this month of celebration with a special event in New York this Friday.

The root of the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration is the “fiesta de la independencia” or the independence party for seven Latin American countries: El Salvador, Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Chile, and Guatemala. 

Celebrating my first year as a “blogger” today, I’m writing about the same event I covered in my first published piece, which was on the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC).  Last year’s event was a very special moment; the primaries had just finished, and I had been to hear the most touching speech by Hillary Clinto
