The Light at the End of the Tunnel

By:

I am a native New Mexican (from Roswell, N.M.—yep, the alien one!) and a first-generation college student.  Prior to coming home to New Mexico, I had the pleasure of serving as the Executive Director of Development and Marketing for Southwest Airlines’s Community Partner, the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities in San Antonio, Texas.  I also have had the... read more

Heart of the Community Program Revitalizes My Hometown

As a San Antonio native, I was personally excited to take part in the Southwest Airlines Heart of the Community project at Travis Park.  This spring, I had the opportunity to volunteer at the re-opening of Travis Park alongside my Cohearts. We kicked off the morning with Zumba and yoga classes followed by games and good ole’ fun.  Gary Kelly and Mayor Castro held a press... read more

From the Heart to Kidd’s Kids

By:

I’ve been a fan of Kidd Kraddick from my teenage years to adulthood. My admiration for him steadily grew over the years, and especially when he started Kidd’s Kids, which focuses on families with terminally ill or physically-challenged children. Each year, Kidd’s Kids treats 50 families to a week-long, all-expenses paid magical theme park vacation.  I always thought it... read more

Southwest and the East Oakland Youth Development Center

By:

At the East Oakland Youth Development Center (EOYDC), we serve a population that doesn’t have access beyond their own community within the City of Oakland and rarely gets an opportunity to dream of the possibilities that exist beyond.  Since 2008, Southwest has allowed us to take our young people on a five-day journey to New York, where students see a diverse range of... read more

Giving from the Heart with Honduras Good Works

By:

On Wednesday, July 17, 105 Honduras Good Works Volunteers made their way to rooms at Clara Montana Retreat Center, 60 kilometers south of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.  This year marked my sixth time traveling to Honduras with my sons to volunteer.  While we come to Honduras to serve others, I’ve found that each trip I leave having received more than I have given, because of the... read more

Making Barron’s Wish an Incredible Journey

By:

At Southwest Airlines, we connect people to what’s important in their lives.  We LUV celebrations and making the ordinary, extraordinary.  This is a guest post by Juli McClave, wish granter and Volunteer Manager for Make-A-Wish® Alaska and Washington. To paraphrase Ralph Waldo Emerson, experiences are made by the journey, not the destination.  As a society that tends to... read more
