Working in an airport every day, you’re bound to see a familiar face or two. Whether it be a celebrity, a long-lost friend, or…the Founder/Chairman Emeritus and the President Emeritus of Southwest Airlines?! Alas, it was not Herb Kelleher and Colleen Barrett flying out of Buffalo on July 7th, but it was two Southwest Customers: John and Edith Spain.

There’s no red carpet, no little gold statues, and-thankfully--no Joan and Melissa Rivers—just more than 2,500 Employees (who clean up very nicely, I might add) and guests at the Sheraton Dallas for an evening they will never forget.  This year 3,239 Employees are celebrating ten, 20, 25, 30, and 35 years with Southwest Airlines, and what better way to honor their dedicated service to

About a month ago this was in my e-mail box, “Dear fellow Interns, Get ready to skip class, turn off your Crackberry, dump your boy/girlfriend, get your camera charged, and get ready for some good food and an amazing opportunity to get to know two very special people.

As March draws to a close, I’d like to point out that it is Women’s History Month—perhaps a little-known fact for most people. The celebration actually began in 1978 as “Women’s History Week,” and was later expanded to an entire month by Congress in 1987.

I'm about to celebrate my two-week anniversary here at Southwest (cupcakes, anyone?) and have had some time to reflect on being the new kid on the block. My first day began with a Wild Turkey Call Contest at lunch--a rite of passage I think everyone should go through.
