Surprise, surprise! Southwest bids for Frontier

Southwest caught a lot of people off guard when it announced today it was preparing a bid for Frontier Airlines. The announcement sets up an auction contest next month with regional rival Republic Airways.

Collective wisdom was that Southwest wouldn’t go after Frontier because the former airline operates an all Boeing 737 fleet, while Frontier flies Airbus planes.

After we got up off the floor and started thinking about the potential deal, we liked it.
