Want to Avoid Bag Fees? So Does Southwest

After Southwest Airlines reported on Thursday a $20 million loss, one Wall Street analyst suggested a quick fix: start charging for checked bags as most of its competitors do.

"Why not put those in place?" asked Morgan Stanley airline analyst William Greene, noting that the extra revenue from fees would have likely given Southwest a profit for the quarter.

Southwest CEO Gary Kelly had a simple answer sure to please the airline's customers: "We think the strategy we have is the right one."
