From San Antonio, With LUV

The Mayor of San Antonio finally got caught holding the bags.  (Of peanuts and pretzels, that is!)  And here’s the evidence!  We presented Mayor Julián Castro with those small tokens of appreciation after he read a formal proclamation to Southwest Airlines Employees from SAT and DAL. And all this took place in the solemn chambers of the San Antonio City Hall. At an... read more

Time Capsule Diving, Part Two

Here's more items that we pulled out of the time capsule at our 40th Anniversary Party last month.  We begin with more paper work saved for posterity.  The FLIFO department contributed this flow sheet of the day’s operation for June 18, 1991, and most of the Team signed it.   This might be the most unusual item preserved in the time capsule.  It looks to... read more

Time Capsule Diving, Part One

No, I didn’t have to wear fins or goggles, and I could breathe just fine.  However,  I was lucky enough to dive to the bottom of the time capsule that was opened at the 40th Anniversary Party in Dallas.  Here’s a report of what I found—so far.  The biggest quantity of items were the guess Southwest’s future contest entries.  Back in 1991,... read more

40 Years in 40 Days: Class of 1971

It's a great honor to be able to represent the founding year of Southwest Airlines: 1971.  I suppose it's more a testament to longevity than anything else.  Forty years later, and I'm still here.  Like so many others, I was a Purdue Airlines refugee, and unlike others finding Southwest, it was Southwest that found me.  Someone from Southwest found out... read more

Turning 40 the Southwest Way

I’ve been working for this airline for nearly 13 years and one thing still amazes me—that fact that nobody can celebrate quite like Southwest!  Saturday, June 18, marks Southwest Airline’s 40th anniversary—but why contain the festivities to just one day?  We started celebrating our 40th year back in February with Gary’s Messages to... read more
