Fun Facts

Favorite Southwest Moment

Too many to mention! However; always having fun flight attendants is a must; and always happens :) A few months ago; a flight attendant on our flight from Kansas City to Louisville, Ky was from Louisville. The pilot was from the east coast; and the two went back and forth saying "Loooey-ville" or "loooois-ville" the pilot even interrupted the flight attendant during her speech over safety when she said the city we were going to and said it his way. the flight attendant then said "go back to Worchester; pronouncing it wrong. lol

Jack Henry Turns Five

Feb 12 2013
I can't believe it's been a year since the amazing Southwest tour that was set up for Jack Henry for his 4th birthday.  Well, this past week, he turned five and when I asked him what he wanted the theme of his birthday party to be, without hesitation he enthusiastically chimed, "Southwest Airlines!"  His SWA-themed birthday party was the Sunday before last, and if the pictures are any... read more

LUV is in the Air: A Rapid Rewards Valentine's Saga

Feb 13 2013
When I came to work at Southwest Airlines more than 20 years ago, I thought it was “cute” that the airline had the stock ticker symbol, LUV. As a former newspaper reporter, I knew from my dealings with executives and Employees that Southwest was irreverent and a bit different. But, use the word LUV or LOVE? Really?  Now, more than two decades in, I’m a proud Kool-Aid drinker. I get it. This... read more

LUV Each Other: A Denver Marriage Surprise

Feb 14 2013
This morning, we had the pleasure of surprising the first couple to get married at the Denver courthouse on Valentine's Day with two roundtrip tickets on Southwest Airlines. Madeline Jacobs said she couldn't sleep all week.  She would've camped outside the Denver courthouse to be first in line to get married to her sweetheart, Josè, on Valentine's Day. Josè has a knack for making... read more

Flashback Fridays: Selling Love Field in 1974

Feb 15 2013
We’ve covered the landmark day of January 13, 1974, before in previous editions of Flashback Fridays.  Those earlier posts have shared pictures of the abandoned Dallas Love Field lobby after the other airlines packed up and moved to the DFW Airport.  Just as the other airlines shifted airports overnight, Southwest consolidated our operations into the old baggage claim wing and what was... read more

Beth Connects the Networks

Feb 15 2013
Traveling with your boss is a little nerve-racking.  Traveling with your boss to test network connectivity presents itself an entirely different class of exhilaration.  Add in the fact that it's also your boss' birthday, and then you can forget sleep! Recently, all of the above came into play during a test where we connected the Southwest and AirTran networks in several markets... read more

Honoring Veterans and Making Miracles

Feb 15 2013
By the spring of 2011, there was already a buzz among veterans of our local VFW Post 8985 that there was going to be a Congressional Gold Medal (CGM) ceremony in Washington, D.C. to honor the Japanese American soldiers of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, the 100th Battalion, and the Military Intelligence Service whose heroic service during World War II made them the most decorated fighting unit... read more

At Southwest, I have the pleasure of working on our Local Advertising Team.  We’re the ones responsible for taking our brand to each and every one of our more than 70 destinations across the country.  When I heard that our next big city initiative would be Milwaukee, I couldn’t contain my excitement!  Every city has its own special story, and I couldn’t wait to uncover Milwaukee’s... read more
