It was the 24th of February, 1995 that I began my journey with the LUV airline. Sixteen years and several departments (including Reservations, Marketing and Communications), I’m now grounded on our Community Affairs & Grassroots Team. I’m charged with building strategic relationships with nonprofit, business, and political organizations to positively impact the diverse communities Southwest serves. Yep, I know what you are thinking…..it’s a pretty cool gig! I’m also an alumni of the Corporate Culture Committee and of course, enjoy sharing my thoughts via blogsouthwest.com

Your Favorite Southwest Story

Oh, so many to choose from, but I’d have to say my absolute favorite would be hanging out at SuperBowl XLI on 2.4.07 with Herb Kelleher and Brach Crider. Most of you don’t know Brach Crider, but I’m sure you have heard of Herb. If you remember back to that day it rained the entire game…except when Prince performed the half time show. I didn’t even care that it rained all day….I had my poncho and was hangin’ with Herb! What a once in a lifetime experience that I will never forget!

Celebrating 30 Years of Successful Kids

“Always give back—find a way to help others” are the simple yet powerful words that Denver Nuggets Coach George Karl has always remembered since first hearing them from his former University of North Carolina Basketball Coach Dean Smith in the early ‘70s.  Yes, Coach Karl has 1,036 wins and 75 career playoff series under his belt, but just as important as these wins are the “give back”... read more

Celebrating Women: A Village of Hope

Tyreia, Tracey, and Monica are three inspiring young women who have overcome so much tragedy and instability in their short lives.  They were brave enough to share their unimaginable stories at the Celebrating Women Event on a beautiful evening on the Dearborn Heights, Michigan campus of Vista Maria.  Born to a mother who didn’t want a child, a pistol held to her head at three,... read more

In my travels to Charleston over the past few months, I’ve learned about the many wonderful things The Holy City has to offer—amazing history, fabulous shopping, beautiful beaches, world-class golf courses, and a thriving restaurant scene with some of the best Chefs in the southeast.  In fact, many of them have received the prestigious James Beard Foundation's award for Best Chef Southeast.... read more

Rockin' Music City for 25 Years: Southwest Airlines celebrates Nashville

Mar 18 2011
It was 25 years ago today that the first Southwest Airlines jet took off from Nashville.   I wasn’t around on that first day back in March 1986, but I bet in addition to boarding some fabulous Customers, we also flew one or two guitars on that day—it is, after all, Music City.    A lot has happened in the last 25 years—we’ve gone from eight daily departures to two nonstop... read more
