David E Weck

Raised in the cool serene forested foothills of Southern Oregon, David was heavily involved in the arts. He participated in choirs, drama, orchestra, and was also active in scouting and a few sports. He decided on a life of servitude and pursued his teaching career at Southern Oregon University with majors in music education and vocal performance. He moved to the hot dry dust laden deserts of Central Arizona in 2005 where he taught high school choir for 3 years. He was lucky to find Southwest Airlines in December of 2009 and has been excited to be part of a great family.

Languages

I have had extensive diction classes in many languages such as Italian, French, German, and Ancient Dutch, however if you try and converse with me you will get a blank stare.

Your Favorite Southwest Story

My gal pal Rachel Green and I have so many stories that I love… Nancy Drew and the Mystery of the Missing Reservations, the Dummy’s Guide to Peanuts, and the legend of the stray cat that wandered into the center one day… Good times…

Who taught you to have fun?

At Southwest, we honor three basic tenants: to have a Servant’s Heart, a Warrior Spirit, and a Fun-LUVing Attitude.  When I started working for the company almost three years ago, I was happy to know that I was already living those standards thanks to the qualities instilled within me by my family, teachers, and friends.  I was honored to know a very special person who helped me realize... read more

Oh, Henry!

Apr 26 2011
We get tens of thousands of phone calls a day, but every now and then we get a gem that is engrained in our memories and hearts forever.  Sometimes we are fortunate enough to book a fare for a celebrity, or talk to a head of state.  Sometimes, we get the occasional Customer who pulls at our heart strings.  And then there is Henry.  Henry came to us late on a Saturday... read more

What's Cooler Than Being Cool? An Ice Machine

We all have things about our jobs that we dread each day.  For most of us, there is a glimmer of hope that enables us to tolerate where we work.  Here at Southwest Airlines, they not only treat us well, but we come to work each day looking forward to the special family-oriented environment. I remember coming in for the first day here at the Customer Service and Support center in... read more

We Are Family

Apr 24 2011
In January of this year, my wife and I were faced with what no parent ever wants to hear: a tumor had been found on the brain stem of our five-month-old daughter, Cadence. You can imagine the pain we felt in our hearts that this was happening to our little girl. We were brand new parents, who felt challenged enough to not mess up our first child as we learned our way through this new... read more
