Mike Sims

Mike started at Southwest Airlines in 1996 as a Flight Attendant and flew all over our great country based out of Chicago, Phoenix, and Orlando. In the summer of 2007, he was promoted to Manager in Inflight Services. Nowadays, he helps lead strategic projects and efforts impacting Southwest Airlines’ Provisioning Agents and Flight Attendants.

Languages

English. I wish I was fluent in Spanish.

Hobbies

I love music….Rock n roll, blues, and indie pop, just to name a few genres. I play guitar in a band consisting of other Southwest Employees. We are called “The Why? Nots” We play fun music; after all why? not. I also love working on my house. I know nothing about home remodeling or decorating, but I am willing to learn as I go. So far, I haven’t messed things up too bad!

Family

Single, raised as the middle child with two brothers. My mother is a retired school teacher and my father is a retired college professor

Pets

None currently, I’m not home enough to give animals the attention they deserve. However, I love dogs and cats—sometimes fish.

Lake Highlands High School, Dallas TX. State Champs 1981. Go Wildcats! I graduated 1986

College

BA Communication Studies; “Harvard of the South Plains” aka Texas Tech. The greatest school ever!

Favorite Sports Teams

I am from Dallas……do you have to ask? Okay. Cowboys, Mavericks, Stars, Rangers.

Favorite Travel Destinations

Anywhere Southwest Airlines flies, but I really love northern California. Great weather and people.

Your Favorite Southwest Story

I had the opportunity to play guitar in a band with our CEO Gary Kelly. Not much of a story, but I still think it’s cool that he plays guitar and has a fabulous ebony Gibson Les Paul—killer tone. Not many CEO’s can claim “killer tone” as one of their positive attributes!
