I work for a retailer and travel the country setting new stores. I'm on the road 10 days and home for 4; then repeat. Needless to say; I get on a Southwest plane a lot!

Fun Facts

Favorite Southwest Moment

Too many to mention! However; always having fun flight attendants is a must; and always happens :) A few months ago; a flight attendant on our flight from Kansas City to Louisville, Ky was from Louisville. The pilot was from the east coast; and the two went back and forth saying "Loooey-ville" or "loooois-ville" the pilot even interrupted the flight attendant during her speech over safety when she said the city we were going to and said it his way. the flight attendant then said "go back to Worchester; pronouncing it wrong. lol

Military Heroes Month: Transporting a Fallen Hero on 9/11 Anniversary

Nov 20 2012
I often hear the word “hero” used when I hear stories about people who stepped up to a challenge or overcame tremendous obstacles.  For me, I had the privilege and humbling honor to transport true heroes—including one who had sacrificed everything.  Upon landing in Baltimore (BWI) on the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, we were notified that we would be carrying two very... read more

5 Minutes with Ellen

Nov 20 2012
Recently, I had the chance to talk with Ellen Torbert, our Vice President Diversity & Inclusion, at the Southwest Airlines Diversity Summit hosted at our Headquarters in Dallas. I have known Ellen since I started with Southwest Airlines in 1991, when we worked at the Dallas Reservations Center. In this episode of Red Belly Radio, Ellen shares her thoughts on Diversity and Inclusion; have... read more

Furry Friends Flown to Safety from Hurricane Sandy

Nov 20 2012
Other than my Family, there are two things in my life that make me get out of bed every morning with a smile. One is working for Southwest Airlines, and the other is the time I spend volunteering for a local all-breed dog rescue. For the first time, this past weekend, I had the joy of having those two worlds combined. On Saturday, November 17, I was honored to volunteer my time to assist with... read more

Going Green: Decoding Your Turkey Label

Nov 20 2012
With Thanksgiving only two days away, Green Tuesday is dedicated to keeping you educated about your turkey feast! If you haven’t purchased your Thanksgiving bird yet, consider buying an organically-raised turkey. Buying organic foods can help support a healthy Planet and also give you many added nutrients that modified foods may not have. However, be cautious of unclear food labels that... read more

The Feast: Where Hat-Makers Unite

Nov 21 2012
Tevye sang about it best. Tradition, tradition. Tradition! It’s what makes the holidays special and helps you look back at past memories with nostalgia. Like many Departments within Southwest Airlines, Culture and Communication has an annual Thanksgiving Feast filled with delicious potluck dishes and something that we believe adds a FUN touch—a Thanksgiving hat decorating contest. It’s an... read more

Military Heroes Month: A Whole New Meaning of Sacrifice

Nov 21 2012
This month, we have shared stories of service and honor as we recognize the men and women who have so courageously served our country. As a military mother, my heart swells with pride each time I think of my son’s dedication to our country, but this pride has not come without much sacrifice.Being apart from family during the holidays is one of the many sacrifices our military men and women must... read more

A Social Media Team Potlucksgiving

Nov 21 2012
Awkward conversation at Thanksgiving dinner is practically a national past-time.  Each of us has a loudmouthed, inappropriate, or otherwise controversial family member who makes Thanksgiving entertaining for half of us, and miserable for those who share a direct bloodline.  I'm probably that controversial family member (but I say this mostly to absolve myself of any potential scorn from... read more

Wild Turkey: The National Bird of Southwest Airlines

Nov 22 2012
Is there a more iconic symbol of Thanksgiving than the turkey?  No, we’re not talking about a big Tom as the centerpiece of the table surrounded by dressing, mashed potatoes, and cranberries.  I’m talking about the magnificent wild turkey, which was the mainstay of the diets of Native Americans along the East Coast.  Ben Franklin thought the bird was more deserving of being the... read more

Ice Skatin' in Hotlanta

The Southwest Rink at Park Tavern in Piedmont Park Conservatory is now open for business! The Rink is a great way for Southwest to connect even deeper with our Atlanta Customers, and a perfect extension of the Southwest Porch at Park Tavern. Southwest partnered with the Park Tavern early this fall to create a Southwest-inspired atmosphere for park-goers to enjoy year-round. This is the first... read more

Flashback Fridays: A Thanksgiving Avgeek Photo Feast

Nov 23 2012
This week, I raided my postcard collection to find some photos built around the general theme of the way airlines display their names on the outside of their aircraft.  The other reason was that I just wanted a chance to share these interesting older images with you as an after-Thanksgiving treat. We set the stage with this early Southwest image from the archives, and as regular readers... read more
