I work for a retailer and travel the country setting new stores. I'm on the road 10 days and home for 4; then repeat. Needless to say; I get on a Southwest plane a lot!

Fun Facts

Favorite Southwest Moment

Too many to mention! However; always having fun flight attendants is a must; and always happens :) A few months ago; a flight attendant on our flight from Kansas City to Louisville, Ky was from Louisville. The pilot was from the east coast; and the two went back and forth saying "Loooey-ville" or "loooois-ville" the pilot even interrupted the flight attendant during her speech over safety when she said the city we were going to and said it his way. the flight attendant then said "go back to Worchester; pronouncing it wrong. lol

Meteorology Monday: August 6 - August 12

Aug 06 2012
This week we will see a little bit of a break in the extremely hot weather much of the nation has experienced the last few weeks, with things more typical, which will still be quite warm as we move through August.  There will also, of course, be thunderstorms mixed in, and in some places hopefully they will bring some much needed rainfall.  Also for the first time in a while we have... read more

Going Green: Driving Green

Aug 07 2012
Visiting friends across town, heading into work, or going shopping means that, for the majority of us, we have to hop into our cars and drive. Brian Lusk wrote a great Green Tuesday post a couple of weeks ago about his commute on public transportation to work, and we certainly encourage you to think of the alternatives to driving, such as public transportation, carpooling, and discovering... read more

Another Mid-Air LUV Celebration

Aug 08 2012
On an early Monday morning flight from Denver to Philadelphia, champagne is rarely popped. But this occasion was special; complete with peanut veil, and a tissue paper boutonniere.Surprising and delighting our Customers is in Southwest's DNA.  When Chris Chambers reached out to us with a request to propose to his girlfriend inflight, our Crew knew exactly what to do to make the day extra... read more

Going The Extra Mile to Save Lives: Medical Transportation Grant Program Returns

Aug 09 2012
Imagine a child has a tumor that requires travel across the country each year for treatment. The parents declared bankruptcy, lost their home, and their car. How do they afford travel? For a woman from Lexington, KY, air time is more than just a flight to St. Louis where she can receive treatment at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Air time is a second chance at life, despite multiple lung transplants... read more

Flashback Fridays: A Look at Headquarters Past

Aug 10 2012
Those of us hired after 1990 weren’t able to experience the old Southwest Headquarters facility at the former Braniff Love Field Concourse.  For a little more than ten years, this unusual building served as the heartbeat of our system, and it was the first example of Southwest coming up with alternate uses for the many gates that were left empty when the other airlines moved to the DFW... read more

World Champions of The Largely Insignificant & Sometimes Mildly Interesting

Aug 12 2012
To compete on the world stage is an extraordinary feat.  Although every two years, I am shocked and awed by the greatest athletes on Earth, at the end of the two-week affair, I am left empty.  This emptiness is unrelated to having to wait two more years for any semblance of athleticism in my life.  The void stems from the fact athleticism is the only thing so boldly recognized... read more

SWA Stew: Episode 56

Aug 11 2012
We say goodbye to another batch of great interns in this edition of the Stew.  We're also talking about an airline that's eerily similar to Southwest, Dish Trip: Atlanta, August's Spirit issue, St. Luke's Rehabilitation Institute's therapy module, and last week's fare sale issue.   read more

Maintenance & Engineering: Going for the Gold

Aug 10 2012
Thursday afternoon before London 2012 began, we had our weekly team meeting.  Someone brought up the idea of office "Games," and we all agreed it would be a great way to bring the department together. We decided to dress up the following day like world class athletes, go to breakfast with the department in The Landing (our Headquarters cafeteria), and then spend Friday afternoon coming... read more

Going Green: Recycling the Weight of 165 737-700s in Four Years

Aug 14 2012
Happy Green Tuesday!  If you’ve ever wondered how Southwest is doing its part to make a positive difference, that headline should help answer that question.  Since 2008, Southwest Airlines has recycled the weight equal to nearly 165 Boeing 737-700 aircraft with our co-mingled recycling efforts.  Operating with a green filter is important to us, and through our co-mingled... read more
