From as early as I can remember I was fascinated with the commercial airline industry and always wanted to have work in this industry. My dream came true in 2002 when I began my career with Southwest Airlines in the Customer Relations and Rapid Rewards Department. As the Team Leader of Customer Advocacy and Social Media, my primary focus is to be an advocate for our Customers while ensuring Company policies and procedures comply with Department of Transportation Passenger Protection regulations. I also oversee our Customer Relations Social Media Team which seeks opportunities to address Customer concerns and inconveniences aired via social media channels. This Team works closely with the Southwest Airlines Communications Department to ensure a consistent voice. I currently serve as an alumni member on the Companywide Culture Committee, which gives me the opportunity to spread the awesome Southwest Culture to our Employees and Customers across the Southwest Airlines system. I was born and raised in Tyler, TX and graduated from Dallas Baptist University with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. On a personal note, I enjoy traveling anywhere I can find a beach!

Hokey Day: Vegas Style

Jul 21 2009
Recently, I had the chance to take part in what we call a “Hokey Day”.  The first time I heard about the Hokey, I immediately thought dancing or some form of weird body movement was involved.  Luckily for me that wasn’t the case, except for the part where my Coworkers were jumping with excitement over the fact that the “Hokey Team” was there to appreciate them. Let me back up a bit and explain... read more

SOMETHING NEW IN MOTOWN

Sep 17 2008
There’s a smell of something new in the air at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport.  What is it?  It’s the smell of the brand new $431 million North Terminal, which is Southwest Airlines' new home (beginning today) in Detroit.  The North Terminal will replace the Smith Terminal, which was built back in 1957. I recently attended an open house for the new terminal, in advance of today's... read more

To give you a little background, the Corporate Culture Committee is made up of over 100 Employees who volunteer... read more

Mar 08 2012
A lot of you have been wondering about the status of our first 737-800 since it took its initial flight back on February 23.  Well, today, we took delivery of our brand new aircraft in Seattle.  However, don’t look for it at one of our airports right away because the hard work isn’t done yet, and over the next few weeks, the airplane has a very busy schedule:   The plane... read more

What was Southwest Doing at BlogWorld?

Nov 09 2011
This year, we made our annual pilgrimage to BlogWorld, an event I've come to look forward to every year (I can say that now, having been there... twice). I thought I'd answer the above question for those of you who attended and were unable to listen to me gab after having asked us what we were doing in the L.A. Convention Center.  Besides sporadic dance parties, we make the annual trip... read more

The Spirit of Kitty Hawk Moves to Its New Home

Apr 29 2011
While it hasn’t been a secret, we really haven’t publicized our exciting preservation/museum project yet.  However, you certainly will know something is different if you pass the corner of Lemmon Avenue and Mockingbird Lane starting today here at Love Field.  A big shiny Southwest 737 is half-inside and half-outside the Frontiers of Flight Museum.  (Don’t worry, it’s planned that... read more

Flashback Friday: A Look at Southwest’s First Hangar

Mar 25 2011
Flashback Friday, A Look at Southwest’s First Hangar   With airport remodeling underway in Dallas and San Antonio, much of our original airport infrastructure from our origin in 1971 has now met the wrecking ball.  Our original gates/ticket counter/operations at Houston George Bush Intercontinental may still be intact, but I can’t verify that.  However, the original temporary... read more

Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler!

Mar 08 2011
Even on a normal day, the hallways at Southwest Airlines Headquarters are far from ordinary—every wall is covered with framed photos and memories from floor to ceiling.  But today, Mardi Gras, the hallways of our building on Love Field Drive were especially boisterous and filled with more SPIRIT than usual!  As a Correspondent in the Executive Office (EO), I am also part of our... read more

Flashback Fridays: The Ten-Minute Turn in Pictures

Mar 22 2013
For the next several weeks we’ll be publishing what we consider to be the “Best of” Brian’s Flashback Friday posts.  The first one that we’ve selected reflects a subject and practice of Southwest Airlines that still elicits respect and awe from airline insiders and the traveling public alike.  Hope you enjoy this remarkable “Quick-turn” rerun. How cool is this? We have our first... read more

Shaving for Success: The Saga of Ruppel's 'Stache

Jan 26 2011
Customer Relations and Rapid Rewards Vice President, Jim Ruppel, said goodbye to his beloved mustache of 38 years recently at our CR/RR Department luncheon. The mustache, which is nearly as old as Southwest Airlines itself, has been around since Jim’s first semester of college- even his wife had never seen that precious skin underneath his nose. But Jim couldn’t hold on to the glory days of the... read more
